    because even if we got Santana, he's just a piece. This team needs more than just one big pitcher. They need an entirely new squad.

    Yes. Maybe it is a change of tune, but I dont want to give up one of the big boys in our minors for anything. Hughes has graduated from that role, but Chamberlain and Betances are at that level. Kennedy and Horne are fast approaching it. I truly think we will be better off rebuilding the rotation with young, powerful arms on the cheap. Getting Santana would be great, but not at the expense of 2 guys who really have filty stuff and look fasttracked to the majors.

    they wont get Hughes. But Chamberlain would have to be in it. Chamberlain climbed up BA's list quickly and is now squarely behind Yovanni Gallardo in pitcher to watch for in the minors. He was sitting at 98 in his last start with a few pitches documented to be in triple digits. The guy is dirty. But it would be more than that. Likely he and Horne plus potentially Tabata or if they are willing to wait, get a package of 2 or more of the DSL kids (Urena, Almonte, etc) to go along with it. Either way, it will be too much.

    I dont think it will happen though. I have a feeling Cashman will be kept on but will get some serious heat from Steinny to make a move. He'll likely overpay for Santana in prospects this offseason and regret it for the next 10 yrs.

    the bolded part all depends on what capacity George is running the team. I honestly hope Cash stays in place, because even though the product on the field blows, the pipeline looks good. If all goes well, we should have a rotation with 4 homegrown players in it by 2009 and the other may be a guy by the name of Santana. If George fires Cashman and decides he has to go for one more ring before he croaks, then we will be in for another long line of yankee dark days. And if we have a couple down yrs it may take all those fake fans off the goddamn bandwagon. The ones who are clamoring for Barry Zito and Gil Meche. Sorry, wont buy it. Long term, we are in some seriously solid shape. Short term, we should have been good. But we got old.

    I heard cashman is looking for a half a tin of skoal and a black tail mag in return. Theo is trying to determine if it will be cherry or mint.

    I was a whole lot more distraught then. Right now I am more sad than stunned or pissed. The era is over. Maybe a new one will start next yr, but that all depends on what capacity George runs the team (hopefully he leaves it to Cashman and we do this right). But this season is over.
