an interesting article on scout.com about Joba Chamberlain. I wont bother with the link, you need to be a member to read it. But essentially, they are saying that Joba is developing his changeup throughout the season. His changeup was by far his least developed pitch coming into this season, but he has made it a point to use it. He says he throws bout 10-15 of them per game. The interesting thing is, Joba already has a plus plus fastball and a plus slider as well as a MLB average curveball. The results are good apparently, according to the pitching coaches, who seem to feel that he could develop the changeup into a league average or even plus change. What has already improved is his confidence in the pitch. He now has no qualms about using it in any count and to any location. While it still has a long way to go, that changeup could put Chamberlain in another world. Being clocked in the 97-99 range in the 6th inning of his start, Joba possesses an overpowering 4 seamer that he can locate throughout the zone and a very good slider, considered the best in the system. If the curve continues along its pace and then he throws in the changeup, he may graduate to the bigs with 4 plus pitches and plus control of all of them. This guy could be a force.

This season? Hmmm. -Delmon Young was the preseason favorite, but Pedroia is outplaying him. -John Danks will be up for the award, even though his W/L record doesnt do him any sort of justice -Fausto Carmona would be the leader right now, but I dont think he is eligible (74.2IP last season) -Howie Kendrick is a guy to keep your eye on. Otherwise, I dont think a middle reliever would win, so that moves Okajima down. But Pedroia and DiceK are certainly making a case. If Fausto is not eligible, then there is a high likelihood that the sox will finish 1-2 and 4 in the ROY voting.

the Guardians have no bullpen. Borowski as closer is scary. They will eventually start losing games late and it will take its toll.

and I have a feeling that he will eventually get better against the sox. There is a reason why Wang has started to show flashes of K potential. Thats because his slider and changeup are improving. If he gets those to be consistent and can trust them on a day to day basis, he will be even better. BTW, that change to Reyes last night that made him fall over, was amazing.

2-2 3.73ERA 31.1IP 26H 29K 11BB 1.18WHIP and a .221BAA. The thing that has KILLED him to this point is that in 31.1IP he has given up a shocking 7 HOMERUNS. That is really bad. His K's indicate that he has very good stuff. But him HR's indicate that his stuff flattens out over time or he hangs his pitches. He still needs refinement.

Kottaras seems to be very similar to a yankee prospect we have in A+ right now. Francisco Cervelli. Most scouts see him as a backup at best when he rises the ranks too. But he is hitting well in A+ ball, like Kottaras did.

He is continuing to have this issue with AAA. I think he has a few more yrs in him before you can label him a bust. But many who follow the scouting circles thought this guy was a backup catcher in the bigs at best and really only saw him as overhyped due to the utter shittiness of the SD system.
