  1. Phil has been examined by doctors and was told his ankle is now 100%. He has already had 2 throwing sessions that went flawlessly. He will likely start a rehab assignment next week and barring any setbacks, will be ticketed for the bronx for the last week fo July.
  2. if he wasnt approaching the most hallowed record in all of baseball and hold the 2nd most hallowed record in baseball, I'd look at him as I do Giambi. But seeing as he is ready to rewrite history as a cheater, I hate the guy.
  3. 6IP 1ER 6H 7K 3BB Solid effort tonight. Time for a promotion I think.
  4. Congrats kid on your 1st major league hit. I saw him last night in Pawtucket, maybe it will be the last time he plays for the pawsox.
  5. Joe Torre needs to be committed. Down 4-0 with no offense, he brings in a dead tired Scott Proctor to get lit up. Man, this manager is something else.
  6. Thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh Yankees lose. Thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh Yankees lose.
  7. Igawa is such a f***ing joke.
  8. 3 more innings, no hits, no walks, 6 strikeouts.
  9. I was talking suicide.
  10. His FB topping out at 95 is a bit generous. Most scouting sites say he'll sit in the 90-91 range and top out at 93.
  11. Danny Ainge should be shanked with a screwdriver. This is an awful trade. The Celtics werent one player away. They were a whole team away. And as a UConn fan, Ray Allen is one of my favorites, but he isnt the high flying all star he once was. He's an injury prone quality but not spectacular player. Add that to another injury prone guy on the decline and this trade could bite Ainge in the ass for yrs to come. Sigh /puts-on-paper-bag-with-holes-cut-out-for-eyes.
  12. he had his demons. I hope it is natural causes, cause I dont want to think less of him. I liked Shooter.
  13. Bowden is certainly having a rough beginning to his AA days. His ERA is approaching 5, his K/9IP are way down, his BB rate had more than doubled and his BAA is way up since his promotion. He is 20 in AA, so cut him a break, but I think the pedal needs to be eased back a bit. And unless he starts to dominate by the end of the yr, a repeat of AA might be in order for next season.
  14. this team sucks. Nice offense. Whatever. Sam Adams has become my new best friend.
  15. 5IP 4H 1BB 1ER 4K I have a feeling the yankees are pulling back on the reigns a little bit with the innings.
  16. Steve Phillips is saying on XM that the deal being worked on is... Gabbard, Lester and Ellsbury for Buehrle and MacDougal. The sticking point is the 72 hour window.
  17. Anyone take a look at Alan Horne? He is the next big thing in the yankees minor league system. And guys like Keith Law continue to underestimate him yet are starting to come around. Asked at the beginning of the yr, Law said that Horne touches 90 and is nothing but a fringe guy. Asked after the first month, he was said to be a 4 or a 5 and throws 88-92. Asked recently and he said Horne is a mid rotation guy who throws low to mid 90s. HE'S GETTING CLOSER! Alan Horne is a 6'4" power armed pitcher who was a top prospect in the SEC going into his sophomore season at Ole Miss. After Tommy John and a transfer to U of F, he showed flashes of being an ace, but didnt rediscover the consistent dominance of his former yrs until now. At 24 yrs old, many people will consider that he is too old for the league in AA. That is true, but when you lose 2 seasons to Tommy John before you start your pro career, then you have an excuse. The yankees drafted him in 2005 and made his full season debut in 06 with mixed results. His mechanics were being altered and that led to an uncanny amount of free passes. But he finished strong in A+ ball and led some to consider him a sleeper in the yankees minors and boy were that right. This season, Horne is among the league leaders in ERA, IP, K, and HR allowed mostly due to vastly improved command, repetition of his mechanics, and an overpowering sinker. Most scouts who actually watch him (Keith Law not included) will make similarities to Chien Ming Wang. Horne features a low 90s sinker but also has a 95-96 mph 4 seamer to go along with a plus curve and developing changeup. This has led to him having significantly low levels of HR's (half of Buchholz's rate) while allowing him to strikeout 10.2 per 9 innings. But his return to command is what is so big for him. Last season, he struggled with his mechanics to the tune of a BB/9IP of 4.5. This season, his BB rate has been nearly halved to 2.4 per 9. His BAA sits at a solid .248 as well. Watch out for this guy. In a yankee system loaded with pitching talent, Alan Horne could certainly be viewed in 2 different ways. With his sinker and location, he could prove to be a very valuable swing man, a la Scot Shields. OR, he could potentially be a top to middle of the rotation arm with his velocity and his control. We shall see how it plays out, but keep his name in mind. He was the big sleeper for this season, and boy has he broken out.
  18. It all depends. I mean, right now the yankees arent even in your rear view. They are so far back that worrying about them is moot at this point, even if they get Buehrle. You have to look at your own team and see how they stack up in the postseason. With a healthy Schilling, a rotation of Beckett, DMats, and Schill in a 5 or 7 game series (with Wake thrown in for game 4 in a 7 gamer) is pretty tough. But if Schill is down and Tavarez truly is hurt, you will need to rely on Wakefield for 2 games of a 7 game series and DMats will have to be a consistent ace, which is something that he has shown flashes of, but not sustained success as. A deal for Buerhle makes Schilling's return moot and gives you a top 3 hammer that can face any team and stand up to it. Also, if Schilling comes back throwing 87mph then you know he likely has some structural damage in that shoulder that is unseen on MRI and you'll have to brave the final 90 games of the season without him. Buehrle can help there too. Because having Gabbard as a spot guy is nice, but you dont want him in the 5 slot for the rest of the way and Lester is looking worse and worse of late. It bears watching. But if Theo thinks Schill is returning to form, then this article is correct. You dont need Buerhle. If the article is wrong, then assume that Theo thinks 38 pizzas is cooked.
  19. hey, Lars Anderson, meet Eric Duncan. A power hitting 1b with a good eye who is being moved slowly through the system. He is so far from the bigs that he certainly cannot be viewed as untouchable, especially if you have the opportunity to land a top of the rotation pitcher.
  20. fred, I am disappointed. That is an awful offer for the white sox. EDIT: and the braves
  21. For reference, Buehrle's stats over the pas 6 seasons... 230IP 3.80ERA .266BAA 2.57K/BB with a W/L of 101-70 and a 1.25WHIP.
  22. Buerhle would be the sox #2 this season if they acquired him. He'd either be the ace or the 2 in NY. He's a very solid pitcher. I hope we enter the fray so long as we dont deal off any of the power pitchers and so long as we can sign him long term.
