  1. What made me think he got it was the way he acted after contact. It looked like he felt he got enough. I can draw off my own playing experience. There may have been one homer I hit in my entire life that I didnt think I got enough. And very few times did I not get one out when I thought I did. Makes me think he got enough in his head and it just didnt go out. Papi in his prime doesnt care about the dimensions. His homers usually soar out of the park
  2. huzzah for Baldelli's error costing the sox a run
  3. huzzah for Baldelli misplaying the ball in RF and then throwing it away
  4. Ortiz is hitting the ball hard of late. His power is gone (as evidenced by the ball he absolutely crushed and was caught on the warning track), but if he can turn into a line drive hitter and bring the average up, he might be useful
  5. Ortiz needs to start hitting and stop bitching
  6. I got f***ed hard with a moron choosing Tulo in the #1 spot
  7. Its a risky pick that could pay off. But I would be concerned with Chipper's continuous injuries and the fact that he's locked into playing the field for the next few yrs. If he was in the AL, Chipper never would have lasted this long
  8. Freddy Sanchez 2B
  9. Alright, alright. Let me look right now.
  10. Well, since Gonzo left, he hasnt been healthy. So it really has turned out to be a s*** for s*** swap, just the sox paid more for their s***.
  11. To be fair Kilo, nobody predicted THIS bad of a dropoff in Ortiz. I think a reasonable expectation would have been .250 with 20 homers and a good eye. He still has the good eye, but christ almighty, he is completely useless. And I agree with Dojji. Lowell was gone if the sox got Tex. They were linked with the Angels who are looking for any warm bodied power hitter to play 3b instead of Maicer Izturis.
  12. you are right ORS. A little excited to see how good this team actually became with ARod's return. Thing is, we have now been going well for 3 weeks without any bullpen at all. Now, with this Aceves kid who is throwing well and our newfound starting pitching depth, this team looks really, really good. Also, I did not expect any of the acquisitions to bomb out. My only concern, as it is with anyone on this aged team is injury. We've had our share, but they seem to be righting themselves to this point. It was also pretty easy to see that the sox success was not sustainable through April. The starting pitching was worse than it is now, but the sox were bashing their way to leads and the pen was holding everything. Now, the offense is scuffling a bit and the rotation isnt handing over leads.
  13. You still have a time bomb in the 5 hole with Penny. Beckett has regained his mojo. I am not sold on DiceK returning to form. He had the fastball at times in his last start, but he looks defeated on the mound. Over the last couple seasons, when DiceK took the mound, he had that snotty little piss ant grin on his face like he was better than you. Now, he looks like he's afraid. Actually, he has the demeanor that he had at the end of 2007 when he couldnt buy an out. I dont know what is up with Lester. But he goes through 3-4 innings like butter without much trouble. Then he gives up a cheapie basehit and its all over. I never thought I'd say this, but Lester seems to have an issue with composure. One bad thing happens and he starts elevating the ball in the zone and all of a sudden a 5 spot is on the board. Not sure how to go with that because his stuff looks just as nasty.
  14. You should watch replays. I think Overbay is the only one who actually battled. The rest were just too easy.
  15. Me neither. The sox cannot seem to get out of the way of themselves. Their offense continues to leave lots of runners on base, especially with black holes in the 6, 8, and 9 positions. Bay and Drew have finally cooled down a bit too. 3 of the 5 starters in the rotation are scuffling right now as the knuckleballer finally fell down to earth. And the most amazing part of that team is getting handed deficits to hold steady, rather than leads to close out. While in NY, we are getting depth from the starters (believe it or not, but this rotation is averaging 6IP per start even with Joba and Hughes barely averaging over 5IP per start) and they are pitching effectively. The lineup is solid now that everyone is back. And we are able to avoid the worst part of our team for the most part in the middle relief. And, we may have found the swing man we have desperately needed since 03 when Ramiro defected. This team looks really, really good right now.
  16. Nobody can call themselves Rivera 2.0. Mostly because nobody has had the prolonged regular season success followed by the uncanny post season success that Mo has had. Being the best in a single season does not make you Mariano. Hell, Gagne in his prime was better than Mo ever was. But his prime was short. Mo has been in his prime since 1996. Not too many closers can say that.
  17. Your FIRST PLACE New York Yankees. Been a while since I could say that. Good job working Lee early on. Pettitte tapdanced through trouble, hope he's okay. Aceves did his best Ramiro Mendoza impression. Mariano did the rest. Big win. CC on the bump tomorrow, facing the wildest Indian, Carmona. Then we get Hughes vs Pavano and Chamberlain vs Sowers. THis was the toughest game to win and we took it. This team is rollin.
  18. He will need to develop eventually. But his FB is the real deal. Hard and with late movement. He had some good spots today. But he wont be able to leave 98 up and over the plate all the time. If that breaking ball develops into a reliable pitch, he wont be touched.
  19. we are trying to get a lot out of Aceves. Might be time for one of those 1+ IP saves for Mo. CC is going tomorrow, so we should get some depth there
  20. I was surprised they bypassed short season, but I see why. He's been very, very good. The question is, how deep do the sox let him go? Most guys in their 1st yr out of high school get cut off around 110IP.
