  1. so therefore, you fit the definition of bias. Thanks for clarifying
  2. you cannot claim victory when I have run roughshod over you for the past day or so.
  3. that quote is not being used appropriately in this scenario, though. CC, Pettitte, and Burnett have historically given innings, especially since AJ went to Toronto. And we know CMW gives innings as well. This isnt a flash in the pan kind of thing, these guys give depth. Its what they do.
  4. I said nothing about a rotation, I said Lowell would have been dealt if the sox FO thought he was disposable. Yep, we have spent a lot of money for no reward over the past decade. But the past is the past my friend, we finally spent on the right parts. i dont think you actually know what the word bias means.
  5. I think Ortiz was better basically because of the theatrics and the postseason, but you could certainly make a case for fat Mo.
  6. Wow. Thats like saying Bailey is headed for an all star career. Cmon now, you are talking about replacing the best left handed hitter the sox have had since Teddy Ballgame or offsetting the lack of acquiring a bat like Tex' with a 25 yr old guy in AA who is looking like a AAAA player.
  7. but you made it sound like the sox actually cared about getting bent over a barrel in a Lowell trade. They wouldnt have cared one bit if they made the assessment that Lowell needed to be dealt. Getting Teixeira far outweighed the loss of value they would eat to deal away Lowell. And who cares about how much you are paying Lowell if you arent winning. Sorry Dipre, if the yankees take the title of highest paid WS team from the sox, then I wont give a s*** that we paid 200+mil for the club. Not one bit. Actually, I hope they keep spending.
  8. But the point of the Tex negotiations was not to find a taker for Lowell, but to find a cornerstone, middle of the order hitter who they could put at 1b for the next 8 yrs. Dealing with Lowell was secondary and only if they were confident they didnt need his bat or glove around.
  9. You cant read, can you? I said Lowell has had a better yr to this point, but I said that Crede is the better bet going forward. Go back to my points on why Lowell is primed for a decline to see why.
  10. how am I overvaluing the rotation? Right now, CC is averaging 7.1IP per start, Burnett 6.5IP per start, and Pettitte 6.3IP per start. I didnt say anything about their effectiveness, although they have been pretty good to this point. I only remarked on their endurance. And as we all know, a solid CMW is good for about 6.5IP per start. I know our pen sucks, but Hughes isnt a short reliever and shouldnt be used as one. And with the way the rotation has been pitching, Hughes would only be used for one inning at a time, which isnt what is best for his growth.
  11. I would consider Crede and Lowell to be right around the same page. Both are injury prone. Lowell is outperforming Crede right now, but I would say Crede is the better bet going forward.
  12. Right now, in the middle of a big contract and coming off hip surgery, Mike Lowell would not fetch a lot without some cash being thrown in.
  13. how am I being biased? Tex is an MVP candidate. He would be a massive upgrade for the sox. How can you deny these basic premises of my argument? They are fact.
  14. Posada has an IsoPower of .205 in 07 which is right in line with his career IsoPower of .203. Mike Lowell's IsoPower this yr is .212, which is a big increase over his career line of .179. And, Lowell's highest career IsoPower was .254, his second highest would be this yrs total. Posada has had at least 4 seasons of .205 or better without his 07 season.
  15. what land is that? The land where reality reigns supreme? At least in this thread anyway. If we were to use Hughes in the pen, then I would assume it would be similar to Joba. More than one inning at a time with more than one day inbetween appearances. That works well if our rotation wasnt giving any depth and if we didnt have anyone else who fits that role. See, this yr, as opposed to every yr since 2003, our rotation is giving depth and has guys in it who typically give depth. Also, we have a guy who is doing the Mendoza thing in Aceves and he's doing it pretty well. I would assume that Hughes wont get a lot of consistent work if he converted now and his IP total would be down.
  16. First off, Lowell has had a history of significant declines over the past 4 seasons. Now, they may be due to injury, but you have to remember, this is a post injury Lowell. Second, Lowell isnt walking, at all and he is striking out a tick more than he usually does. Third, his OPS looks really nice right now, but how many guys in their mid 30s suddenly have their second best slugging season in their careers? Not many, and I would assume that wont continue with Lowell. And fourth, if you go by the rules of BABIP which I loosely follow, Lowell has been a bit lucky with a BABIP of around .320. Put it all together and I think Lowell ends up with an OPS in the mid .700s by seasons end. Not terrible, but not what a 3b on a championship caliber team should be OPSing.
  17. Nobody could predict his precipitous decline. But some writing was on the wall.. 1. He is a big man who is entering his mid 30s and is coming off knee and wrist injuries 2. His batting average started slipping after July Granted, I think everyone expected him to hit 20 or more homers and I dont think there were too many people who thought he'd OPS under .850, but the writing was on the wall pertaining to his decline. So a blanket FO backing statement about the absolute shock of Ortiz' poor performance is off because any casual fan could see Ortiz just wasnt the same last yr.
  18. By the way, Tex would also bring steady leadership qualities, a middle of the order bat and the willingness to sacrifice his body for a win. His play last night was awesome, taking out the SS, keeping the inning alive and we went on to score 6 more times and put it out of reach
  19. Not right now. Think about our rotation as it is constituted. Lets assume we get Wang back and he is the CMW we all know and love. Then we'll have 4, that is 4, pitchers who will average 6.3 or more IP per start with CC over 7IP per start and then Joba. If someone gets hurt, then Hughes would have started anyway and we'd have to re-stretch him out. I do not agree with using Hughes in a short role right now. At the end of the yr when he's coming up on his IP count, then absolutely. Same deal with Joba. Hell, if the yankees decided to piggyback those two for the end of August and September, I am game. I just think that a healthy CMW gives us more right now than Hughes does. And I also do not want Hughes shortened to where he doesnt reach the 150IP mark. So, in a perfect world, IMO, Wang comes back strong, Hughes goes to AAA and by the end of the yr, Joba or Hughes are working out of the pen after they reach their innings caps and our top 4 for the playoffs are CC, Burnett, Wang, and Pettitte.
  20. Ellsbury was walked intentionally twice.
  21. This is an interesting topic. Couple points. 1. Mark Teixeira was going to the highest bidder, period. You dont sign with Boras if you dont go to the highest bidder. Only a few players ever do (Tek being one of them apparently) sign for less money. No matter what Tex said, if Boston offered 190 mil, he'd be donning a red uni instead of a pinstriped one 2. Mark Teixeira would have been a replacement for Lowell. I know it was said before, but the rumor was that the Angels were willing to take him for a pay cut and would send over a pitcher. It never got out of the infancy stages because Tex wasnt signed. But think about that. Tex at 1st would provide GG defense and would seriously outperform Lowell offensively, while right now, I think Youkilis is just as good if not better defensively than Lowell right now due to his serious lack of range 3. Adding Teixeira would have made the sox corner IF spots be elite in terms of production for the next 5-8 seasons. As it stands right now, Lowell has all signs pointing to a decline this yr (look at the IsoPatience and his career) and without a resurgent Papi, the sox O will be in serious trouble. Those are my points. I think the yankees needed the pitching to get into the conversation with Boston and I think the Tex signing put us over the top. If the sox got Tex, Giambi would be back in NY and our D as well as our O would be in serious dire straits. As it stands, Tex is a rising MVP candidate and I am glad he is in pinstripes.
  22. SWEET! http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/?p=4034
  23. No, it has more to do with stretching his arm out, and yes, that is more important. I would rather Hughes be able to throw 180-200IP next yr when he slots in for Pettitte. In order to do that, Hughes needs 150IP this season. If 120IP of that comes in the rotation and the last 30IP comes from the pen, then I am totally cool with that. But for right now, he needs to be in the rotation somewhere.
  24. Were you watching the game!!! LOL. Gom, Posada didnt have a prayer on any of them today. That being said, he didnt really show us anything since he sailed two of his throws. You keep trying to make inferences on things that are either isolated or are not true. You need to step back from your gut reaction and actually watch the game rather than enjoy the game as a casual fan and get pissed that something bad happened to the team. You just dont have a clue and it really is funny.
  25. If she is a good person, she will not live long. If she is a total scumbag, she'll live forever. Thats the one thing I have learned in my 6 yrs in the medical field. I have seen a lot of terrible things happen to good, honest people. And there really arent any answers and while most people try to find the "good" in any situation, there isnt any. You just have to live life while you have it and help those who need it. Those are my two cents. Hopefully they stop the bleeding my friend, good luck to you. JM
