I think this part makes the deal one of the better ones in the offseason. If Gary Matthews can command $11 mil per, JD Drew can fetch $14. Nice work, Theo and Co.

RE: Matsuzaka. I head this today and it seems like the most sense to me. Matsuzaka is not going back to Japan. He has expressed his feelings on this time and time again. However, he has no reason to agree to a deal until the last few days (the 11th hour) because there's no reason to commit to anything until then. He can't really say no, but until he has to, he doesn't have to say yes. I also think if negotiations were going badly the Sox would not be focusing so much on Manny Ramirez.

Theo probably thought he could get more out of the Dodgers. Don't be shocked if these rumors of LAA being involved won't make the Dodgers try to get Manny a little harder. especially with news Maddux is close to a deal with the Pads.

You don't think the Red Sox also know that scouts are saying he's going to settle in as a 3? You think they haven't done their research? You don't invest $51 million without knowing what's going on first. The question is, who's right? The scouts? Boras? Tell me. You think he'll settle in as a 3 starter but get paid ace money. I don't see that happening, especially since there's so much pressure on Boras to get a deal done. They'll offer him about $12 mil/yr, and Boras and Matsuzaka will agree on one of the last few days. -
