  1. Well what was the reson for the horrible WHIP? Was he hurt? Plus he's a year older. I've said he makes your rotation better. So as of now it's a good deal. But what happen's if he puts up a mid 4s ERA and goes to a .500 record? Is the $16 million worth it?
  2. That's fine, but can you really live with a 1.43 WHIP in the AL East? For $16 million?
  3. I think we can all agree that Boras is the best agent out there. I didn't say it wasn;t about the money, it's just not the entire equation. Boras will get Matsuzaka what he deserves, or at least he's the one who will have the best chance of doing so. Matsuzaka knows this. But Matsuzaka also knows what he wants, and that's to pitch in the MLB. if the Sox offer him 5 yrs at $12 mil per, you think he'll turn that down?
  4. Did I not say he makes your rotation better? All I'm saying you're foolish if you think he's going to put up a sub-3.00 ERA in the AL East. And if the WHIP doesn't go down, then he'll hover around 4-4.5.
  5. The only time I'll be nervous is if the deadline passes and Matsuzaka's not sporting a big red #18. And even then I'll be furious, not nervous. We knew from the start this thing was going down to the wire...why should we feel different now? We also knew the negotiations were going to be kept as quiet as possible and that there would be posturing on both sides. Again, why should we feel different now? I will say that if next Saturday comes and Theo has failed I'll drive to Boston and kick him in the nuts myself. But for now there's no reason to worry about it.
  6. *2 good starters (Wang, Mussina) *2 - Pettitte - can he rebound in a much tougher division? Johnson - can he stay healthy? Then you have the #5 spot. As it is, I think the Sox's rotation is slightly better overall, but the Yanks have the huge pen advantage.
  7. Honestly, I feel like it's time for Matsuzaka to cash in now. If he turns down the Sox's offer, he's going back to Japan and his $3 million/yr salary. If the Red Sox offer him $12 million/5 yrs, I think it's a deal he and Boras are going to accept. It's not just about the money this time. Matsuzaka has been saying since high school how much he wants to pitch in the MLB. He has an oppurtunity to really make a name for Japanese baseball, especially in terms of pitching. Do you think he's going to throw that away because the Sox offered him $12 million/yr instead of $15 million/yr? That would make Matsuzaka greedy in the eyes of the Japanese public, IMO, and would really cause his status to take a large hit. I think it's important for Matsuzaka to be a good citizen for Japan here in the MLB, and walking away from $3 million, especially when the salary he'd be getting is 4x what he's getting in Japan, would be disastrous for Matsuzaka. The Red Sox will sign him. My guess is 4 years, $12-$14 mil a year, with an option for a fifth.
  8. Yeah 7 days....such a short amount of time.
  9. You had me til the last part, homie. Pettitte's deal will be judged on whether or not he makes the Yankee's rotation better. if he does, it's a success. But "the gap widens.."? Does it slam shut when the Sox sign Matsuzaka?
  10. 2/32 takes some of the shine off the deal...but all in all a good signing.
  11. That really doesn't make much sense, but OK.
  12. No legit sources, just a possibility.
  13. http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showtopic=12880&st=660 Rumor going around SoSH and the ESPN boards...Matsuzaka to sign Monday. Matsuzaka for Meche $$? Yes please.
  14. Shhh....numbers are no way to win an argument.
  15. No thanks. He was found guilty of using PEDs in the Olympics I think and his ERA spiked in the NL. PASS.
  16. lol @ wimp, man thats hilarious. And yes, it'll cost more than WMP and a 'spect unless that prospect's last name is Ellsbury.
