  1. Could you cite a source on this please? This seems pretty selfish which is what Wakefield isn't.
  2. The difference between Ellsbury and the other players you mentioned is a proven MLB track record. Each of those players have had some sustained success (read - more than 4 games) in the majors. Again, let Ellsbury play for a month or two before we start hyping him up. Why is it bunk? The improvement of pitching from AAA to the majors should at the very least suggest that a player may have a tough time adjusting. This is a dangerous assumption, is it not? Again, Ichiro has performed aa much higher level than Ellsbury has for a longer period of time. Again, let's just temper the enthusiasm.
  3. True, but if they were going to go younger then they should have done it and traded Pierce. They need to commit to one plan or another. If they are going for it now, they need to trade for Garnett and that means moving Jefferson.
  4. The biggest reason i wasn't worried about Pedroia is he always performed very well after an adjustment period. The same can't be said for Ellsbury at AAA, he never really tookoff there like Pedroia did. I know you're very pro-Ellsbury, but there have been times that he seems flat out over matched. Again, that's the adjustment he needs to make, like Pedroia did at every level. Ellsbury has an OPS of .826 in the minors. Ichiro has his in the majors. Again, let's slow down with the comparisons until he gets more than three games of playing time.
  5. Someone in the PCL should know those things.
  6. I totally agree. Craig Hansen is not enough of a Dirt Dig to play in Boston.
  7. I totally agree...Javy Vazquez is not enough of a dirt dog to play in New York.
  8. I'm a fan.
  9. It's a good trade if it's part of something else. As it stands the right now the team is maybe a 45 win team, but if they're in the "go-for-it" now mode they'll probably have to trade Jefferson. The Celtics need to get better defensively if they want to really contend for a title. If they get Garnett, they have a small window with a team that has the potential to be very, very good. I think this is just part of something much bigger from Ainge. If he stand pat here it's not a very good trade though.
  10. http://dugout.progressiveboink.com/archive/nick140.htm I know not everyone likes these, but I really liked this one.
  11. Sox win tonight, as this will be my only post in this game thread.
  12. Yeah OK, but three of those were at the ultimate pitcher's park. And two of those were against Young and Peavy.
  13. I bet the Sox wait to see what they have with Donnelly coming off the DL until they make a decision with Timlin. I think he's cooked, but I also think if Donnelly's hurt you have to trade for a BP arm, but if not you can DL Timlin and call up a guy like Breslow.
  14. To those who are pining for Bronson arroyo...could you please take a look at his stats this year? And tell me how they would translate to the ALE? And tell me why we'd want him on our team then?
  15. Guthrie vs Pettite Is it wrong to think the Orioles may have the edge here?
  16. Biggio is a cinch 1st ballot Hall of Famer.
  17. I think these things change on a moment's notice. I never really thought we were far and away the front runners for him especially so far away from the trading deadline. It all depends on the extension. If you sign Buehrle for an extension then the chips you are willing to trade away become a lot more impressive. If you're only getting a three month rental for Buehrle, the offer should start with Jed Lowrie and not advance much past that (maybe Lowrie/Murphy). But if you can sign the guy for a multi year extension I can definitely see parting with Michael Bowden, Jon Lester, or even Jacoby Ellsbury. If the FO thinks Crisp is turning into the player he was in Cleveland, how much better is Ellsbury going to be? The guy is not untouchable IMO, the only prospect that is untouchable right now is Buchholz. Ellsbury is not in his league, IMO. Another idea, is it possible that Sox are trying to acquire Buehrle to flip him to the Braves for Salty? The Braves don't have the prospects needed to get Buehrle, and if they could they jump right back into the NL East chase and possibly become one of the favorites in the NL. A 123 of Smoltz/Hudson/Buehrle is pretty good, and it probably gives them the best rotation in the NL outside of San Diego. If the Sox can somehow get Salty for a package of say Ellsbury/Bowden/Lowrie, is that then worth it?
  18. I'm shocked we only have 2 runs right now.
