1. Yeah not a good trade by the Mets. Remember when they could have had Manny for him? lol
2. Crisp has better range. So we're talking about a difference of .016 batting average points. I don't need to have you tell me how insignificant that number is. I won't argue this point too much, but then again it has huge potential to be WMP part deux, only it costs us over $10 million per. Disagree. If you think Jones is signing for anything less than twice what Crisp makes you're insane. Is Jones twice the offensive player Crisp is? Heck, he'd have to be more than that because Crisp is the superior defensive CF, one who's mastered Fenway. Between Jones at $10 mil+ and Crisp at $5, I'll take Crisp at 5.
3. No, because the FO knows how to negotiate. When, in a negotiation, would you ever start out with your best offer? You're better than this. Again, did you not look at the statistics? In terms of the total package, Coco Crisp could at least be considered to be a comparable player to Manny Ramirez last season. And honestly? I do have doubts as to whether or not the total package for Ellsbury is better. I've shown his numbers were fueled by an insanely high BABIP. Can he sustain it? Maybe. But it is by no means a slam dunk sure thing. What about the other side of the coin....how much did we improve our pitching? Probably. is it enough to balk adding the best pitcher in baseball? Answer me this. Do you really feel the difference between Lester and Santana in the rotation is less than Crisp and Ellsbury? I expect a bounce back year from Drew, yes. Lugo I'm not as confident. Ortiz will be healthier than this past year when he had arguably his best offensive season. Who knows about Manny. If you're counting on Jacoby Ellsbury to carry an offense, you're in trouble anyway.
4. And also, the idea that Masterson wouldn't be able to add a new pitch to his repertoire as well strikes me as biased and foolish. And then I remember who's posting those things.
5. Did you read ORS's post, about how his defense made him an above average player? And i firmly disagree with your statement that we don't win the Cleveland series with Ellsbury in instead of Crisp. Game 5 - Beckett's dominant performance led to a victory, Crisp played in this game. Game 6 - Drew's GS vaulted the Sox to an early lead, Ellsbury makes the last out of the 1st inning and only gets his RBI single when the score was 5-1 in favor of the Red Sox. Game 7 - Jacoby goes 1-3. Pedroia had a bit of a larger role in that win.
6. I understand your anti-Favre bias, but what would you say if Brady took a shot to the elbow, and separated his shoulder like Favre did last night? I've learned that nothing I'll ever say can convince you of my way of thinking, but in my opinion comparing Favre to Clemens is pretty laughable, especially considering the fact Favre never commands the media circus Clemens does. Does the media talk a lot about Favre? Yes, because they recognize it is the end of his career, and he's possibly a top 10 QB of all time. I'm looking forward to 8-10 years in the future when Brady gets the same treatment from the media. Bet you won't have a problem with it then.
7. Coco Crisp. Like I said in the other threads, since Haren is cost controlled (read - it won't cost $20 million+ to extend him), more teams are going to be in on the bidding. Therefore, the prospects we will have to give up may be just as good as the ones we'd give up for Santana for a lesser pitcher.
8. Tell me why we want someone who strikes out more often than Wily Mo Pena.
9. Bedard will cost just as much as Santana in terms of prospects. Andruw Jones is awful. No thanks.
10. I will say this.....Atari Bigby may be the worst defensive back I've ever seen.
11. Lowrie is blocked by Lugo. Masterson is a damn good pitching prospect, but he's still in AA. Lester would be replaced by the best pitcher in the game. What does this mean exactly? Were the Sox not enamored with Crisp when they traded for him or signed him to a multi-year deal? I agree, only if the Yankees don't include Hughes. Opinions are like *******s. You think Ellsbury is some uber-prospect. Granted, I like the guy and think he will be a successful major league player, but if a deal for Santana comes down to Ellsbury or Crisp, I personally can't see why dealing Ellsbury is of any detriment to the team. If you can get it done without Ellsbury, great. What happens if the Yanks offer Hughes instead of Kennedy? Do you still deem Ellsbury untouchable at that point? You said it yourself...Coco has more pull than many give him credit for...
12. What?
Year|Innings Pitched 2003|158.1 2004|228 2005|231.2 2006|233.2 2007|219
What well documented arm injuries do you speak of that has had him pitch 200+ innings since 2004?
13. I knew I could count on you to back me up.
14. I'm disappointed, but thrilled with the way the Packers battled in the 2nd half. Losing Woodson and KGB before the game really hurt and I thought the PI in the 4th against Williams was a pretty s***** call...but I didn't think they'd keep it as close as they did tonight anyways. Look, 10-2 is leaps and bounds ahead of where I thought the Pack would be this season. And Aaron Rodgers showed me something tonight. It sucks to lose, but I still feel really good about this team come playoff time. I have confidence Favre, McCarthy and co. will make the necessary adjustments.
15. Predictions for tonight's game? GB hangs in there for 3 quarters, Dallas pulls away late. 31-20 Dallas.
16. Where the hell have I EVER advocated trading both Buchholz and Ellsbury for Santana? Thing is, you're basing this off of what, 100 MLB ABs? You believe that he will be a spark, whereas Crisp has proven he can do so at the major league level. The difference between Crisp and Ellsbury, especially when defense is taken into account, is not as big as many believe. And the last part of your argument...about focusing away from finding a CF? They have one. Crisp. If anything, Ellsbury provides value that they can go after a frontline SP in Santana. Maybe. if he has a bad season, what then? People saw his performance in the WS. What if he hits .260 next season? Dominant pitching is more valuable than a speedy CF who might OBP .380 and steal 30 bases. Of course I do. I just don't think it's reasonable. If the hangup is including Ellsbury in place of Crisp I'll be incredibly disappointed in the FO.
17. I'm in agreement. They HAVE to part with either Joba or Hughes. Anything other than that is a tremendous disappointment. Thing is I think the Sox have the better offer if the Yanks insist on not including those two.
18. Well yeah, but the offer on the table for the Yanks doesn't include Hughes...which was my original point. iF Santana goes to the Yanks, the Sox need to make sure Hughes IS in the deal.
19. Why is that exactly? They can go out and sign Rowand to play CF. Besides, if the Yankees get Santana for anything less than that it has to be considered a huge win for them. Wang/Santana/Joba/Hughes? Ughh.
20. LSU gave Miles permission to ask about the Michigan job.
