So basically, the problem you have with Papelbon's original comments is that he deserves to close because the Sox won last year - he DID have three saves in the WS and arguably had a better statistical season than Rivera did last year. I suppose it's a moot point because Rivera's been better this year - however these things were only used to justify why he should at least be in the discussion to close, no?
Here's the real crux of the Yankee fan argument. They felt Mo was disrepected. Which is fine, until you read what Papelbon thinks of Rivera.
Also, did Rivera take offense to Papelbon's comments? If not - why should anyone else?
