TB and New England had discussions just last week about Cassel if I remember correctly. The longer you hold on to the $14 million franchised player, the greater likelihood it becomes a poison on your salary cap. Pats handled this just fine. Vrabel was going to be cut for cap space anyway. This deal amounts to Cassel for the 34th pick plus a buttload of cap space.
