Plus physical maturity. He is stronger, so his velocity doesn't fall off much. He's older, so he's now in the 110+ pitch range instead of the 90-100 you look for in the younger arms. Someone did a longevity study on power pitchers a few years back and there was a correlation to innings pitched before age 25 and career length. Letting guys under 25 go too long generally shortens their career, but after 25 the same amount of work has much less of a negative effect. It's probably due to multiple factors such as increased strength, joints which have finished developing and can handle the stress better, honed mechanics, and less overthrowing.

They're not picking up another infielder unless they get rid of one in the process. I don't see anything happening other than Lowell resting up and Lowrie taking a little longer than expected. Nobody will be interested in Lugo, or Lowell with his hip and salary. Green is playing well, Youkilis and Pedroia are going nowhere, Kotsay spells for Youk at 1st.

I'm a little surprised Crunch didn't mention another series. I love it when some of the younger guys on the site piss and moan about having to listen to Joe Morgan call games. Really? Oh, really? How about if you were 10 years old and Joe Morgan's 9th inning flair to center gives Cinci a one run lead and your boys can't answer the call in the bottom. What a great team for a kid to watch, you thought they could do anything at anytime, and they had THE BIG RED MACHINE BY THE BALLS...monster game six, jump out to a 3 run lead, only to slowly, painfully let it slip away and f***ing crush my life, courtesy of Joe "Arm Fart" Morgan. f***er.
