  1. This is where you lose me, personally. I find nothing impressive about that team winning.
  2. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0763098.html http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p4ew-fwu2XT3cpPRtt9qIGw Only two teams from the top 10 in payroll break precedent here- Seattle, and the Boston Red Sox.
  3. Olney just wrote how Bay to Seattle makes no sense: Jason Bay is continually being tied, through media speculation, to the Seattle Mariners. This match is very, very unlikely to happen, because the Mariners have first-round pick Dustin Ackley developing in the Arizona Fall League, and at some point next season, Seattle expects to field an outfield of Ichiro Suzuki, Franklin Gutierrez and Ackley. The same can be said with Hideki Matsui: If the Mariners re-sign Ken Griffey Jr., there really will be no place for Matsui on the Mariners. It looks as if Griffey will return for the 2010 season, and Larry Stone asks: Why not?
  4. Yeah, because Kansas City and Pittsburgh have the same market to draw from as NY. Definitely. If the Royals won 4 world titles 10 years ago do you think they would have the ability to spend 200M per year on payroll? Do you think their city would have funded 1.8 Billion dollars for a new park? This whole " Its just good business by the ownership" argument is ridiculous. Of course its good business. That isnt the point. It is unfair business that rewards certain geographical areas and hurts others. Hey, both of LA's teams are in the top 10 in payroll! Hey- Chicago is in there too! Hey, so are Houston and Philly! WOW. It must be the great work done by the ownership of those teams.
  5. In my opinion, if they can pull the trigger on the AGon deal without losing Bucholz (which I think is very possible, since the Padres should be focused on 2011-2012 talent since they will do nothing next year) then I will consider the off-season a success despite all the other questions left unanswered. I dont care if it is Bay, Holliday, or Figgins in left field.
  6. I get what you guys are saying about getting over Tex, I dont think that is what he is getting at though- I think 700's point is that if the Sox weren't ready to pull the trigger on that deal, they wont pull the trigger on an A-Gon deal because it will end up costing them more over those years than the Tex deal in opportunity costs, salaries to replace what would be prospect players, and re-filling the prospect cabinet.
  7. In a very good lineup (which the sox have) and in Fenway, A-Gon would be a triple crown contender.
  8. that would mean that we had year zero.
  9. Yeah, the Red Sox f***ed up. So Tex went to NY to play for free to get them back. Wait, no... the Yankees are paying him 180 million dollars. Nevermind.
  10. Big Baby wants to play football: http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nba/news/story?id=4625777
  11. No- I'm looking for a serious response- We have as many rings as you this decade, yes? (more, technically) Why is it all about the rings?
  12. Inquiring minds want to know- Why is it all about the rings?
  13. The Brooklyn Dodgers?
  14. Most people seemed to thing that Matsui would be on his way out of NY at season's end. Does winning the WS MVP mean the yanks will be pressured into signing him by the fan base? Does this make his signing in NY more or less likely? The Yanks potential signing of Matsui changes the 2009 Free Agent landscape significantly, IMO
  15. You LOVED Jason Schmidt.
  16. Sup VA- how goes it? You notice I recruited Wells back into the land of red sox forums?
  17. Schill- I think my halloween costume next year has to be Calvin and Hobbes.
  18. To each his own. You seem to be the only one complaining about whether a post was funny enough (still), which in itself is pretty funny. Is that actually his mom? Dear God. Oh wait- I probably shouldn't say God, since apparently I am playing him. And after the almighty "judging" of poor, poor Justin Chamberlain, my next whim shall be to paint the entire world pink.
  19. It isn't an attempt- its a fact. See: DUI
  20. Joba Chamberlain http://rlv.zcache.com/this_apple_didnt_fall_far_from_the_tree_tshirt-p2353902826620472153ovm_400.jpg
  21. The strike call on Howard in the 9th was pretty awful as well.
