  2. The details on Beckett's deal Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff April 5, 2010 02:49 PM The Josh Beckett press conference is about to begin at Fenway Park. A few details on his deal: Beckett gets a $5 million signing bonus and yearly salaries of $15.75 million. The deal was agreed to a few days ago but by waiting until after Opening Day, the Sox will not be taxed by MLB on the signing bonus. The deal averages out to $17 million a year, better than the $16.5 million new teammate John Lackey will average over course of his five-year contract. That distinction was important for Beckett and agent Mike Moye. Beckett also has limited no-trade protection until be becomes a 10/5 player. Stay here for comments from Beckett once the press conference starts.
  3. Great TEAM effort last night.
  4. Beckett agrees to four-year extension Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff April 5, 2010 12:05 PM It'll be four years and $68 million. Press conference will be this afternoon at Fenway Park as many predicted. Back with more in a little bit.

  9. Lowell was 2-3 last night, both opposite field base hits.
  10. Hall has an RBI too. Oh and it's Beltre by the way:)
  11. He left himself wide open!
  12. Great job Papi! Pedroia, Victor and Youk have been $$$ today.
  13. Not good Clay.......from tonight's game...... Bottom of the 2nd, Twins 6, Red Sox 0 While the struggles of Clay Buchholz are clearly important -- he's allowed five runs and four hits (so far) in two innings -- the absence of Dustin Pedroia is more puzzling. Angel Sanchez came out to start the second inning at second base, after Pedroia started the game. Pedroia did dive on a ball by Denard Span to lead off the game, and throw the ball wildly to first for an error. It's possible his departure is connected to that. No updates on him yet. Update: It's a mild left wrist sprain for Pedroia. He is listed as day to day. He landed awkwardly on a grounder in the first inning that was followed by a wild throw and an error for the second baseman. Update: Buchholz is out of the game. He was extremely wild today, hitting Justin Morneau and throwing three wild pitches. He allowed six runs (five earned) over 1 2/3 innings, walking three.
  14. live Orioles-Red Sox game updates Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff March 20, 2010 01:04 PM Middle of the 5th, Red Sox 2, Orioles 0 Wakefield is going to make the Early-Bird Special in time. His line so far: 5 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 2 wild pitches, 65 pitches, 38 strikes. He has been terrific
  15. Way to go ODU! If Villanova loses, my bracket will be a disaster.
  16. Guessing The Roster, Version 2 Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff March 18, 2010 09:30 AM With the team off today, it seemed like an opportune time to try and guess the roster that will take the field against the Yankees on April 4. We made our first guess back on Feb. 19. There have been some changes since: Catchers Victor Martinez Jason Varitek Outfielders Mike Cameron J.D. Drew Jacoby Ellsbury Jeremy Hermida Infielders Kevin Youkilis Dustin Pedroia Adrian Beltre Marco Scutaro David Ortiz Bill Hall Tug Hulett Starting pitchers Jon Lester Josh Beckett John Lackey Clay Buchholz Tim Wakefield Relief pitchers Jonathan Papelbon Daniel Bard Hideki Okajima Ramon Ramirez Manny Delcarmen Boof Bonser Scott Atchison Explanation: Daisuke Matsuzaka will start the year on the DL, opening a spot for Wakefield. ... Jed Lowrie (mono, sore wrist) hasn't been able to do much to prove he belongs on the team. ... Atchison has been one of the biggest surprises in camp. Brian Shouse has not pitched well enough to be the second lefty and Dustin Richardson got hurt. That leaves Atchison or Joe Nelson. Bonser, who is out of options, figures to get a chance. ... The final spot on the bench is hard to figure. Hulett has hit well but is pretty much limited to second base, although you could use him at third or the outfield in a pinch. Hall needs to prove he can play shortstop for Hulett to have a shot. ... Josh Reddick will give them pause but keeping five outfielders (and Hall, who can play outfield) makes little sense. ... Mike Lowell, now that he is playing, could be traded at any point. If not, he'll likely be on the bench.
