  1. Imagine next year at this time: Manny is gone, Moss is a .750 OPS OF, and Hansen is MAYBE a competent MR. If a .900 OPS OF like Bay was available for Moss and Hansen, wouldn't you make that deal? And that's only for a two month rental, we get Bay for another entire year.
  2. If you let Manny walk at the end of the year you get two months of Manny and two draft picks. For all intents and purposes the production Bay gives you for the rest of the season will be similar to Manny's. Now combine the fact that Bay is 8 years younger, AND we have him signed cheaply through next season, the cost of Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen really isn't that high. This isn't a one year rental, an extra year of Bay IMO is probably worth Moss and Hansen, not to mention we free up 12.5 mil which can be spent in a number of ways.
  3. You are sporting the classic fanboy avatar, you know fwiw
  4. Why can't we ever make a deal like this? There is always this huge media storm around our deals and teams like the Drays swoop in and grab Bay.
  5. No we don't, we still have him under our control for the next 2 years
  6. I didn't know Boras was in on this also
  7. yeszir by adding the "-Fenway" to the thread title it messes up the play on Kilo's thread
  8. They could EASILY fill up a 45K stadium and the demand would still be extremely high. People are paying 65-70 bucks a ticket for bleacher seats vs. teams like the Rangers.
  9. Depending on what way you are coming in, Gate D is a nice option and still gives you access to Yawkey Way if you choose to. I can't say I've been going to Fenway for 30 years, but IMO I think it'd be a lot less stressful if people had some room to walk, could see the whole field, etc. The Yankees are basically rebuilding a model Yankee Stadium and I can probably guarantee that it is going to be amazing. I don't see why you can't keep the charm and history of the Red Sox into a new Fenway.
  10. That'll show them!
  11. After a couple games a season the 'charm' starts to wear off. The ownership has done a great job with the bleachers but the rest of the park is like walking through an underground bomb shelter. Outside of sitting in the bleachers the grandstand is the next best place for the average person since they are still close and aren't 3 billion dollars. But even then there is still a (great) possibility you can't see homeplate or the pitchers mound. Look at the idea proposed way back, it would have been so much better. Keep the Fenway look, keep the old green monster, but make the capacity bigger: http://nationofone.mlblogs.com/photos/uncategorized/bosbpk01.jpg http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/american/bosbpk04.jpg http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/american/bosbpk03.jpg
  12. The seats are 100 years old, there are poles, and we're basically at maximum capacity. The Yankees are getting a new stadium, the Twins are getting a new stadium, the RAYS are a getting a new stadium! Blow it up, keep the green monster up and turn it into a HOF or whatever, it's time!
  13. I'd love to add Kemp to this team. a) ~20mil cheaper then Manny, under control of the team for the next 3 years 13 years younger than Manny c) He has a 3.9 WARP(1) for this season compared to Manny's 4.5, so you don't lose that much and you get a guy who could fill the LF spot for a long time. Not to mention he's a pretty good base stealer also.
  14. Hyperbole, but I don't see why Ellsbury wouldn't be the Red Sox CF for the forseeable future. I'm not going to let a cold streak in a guys rookie season write him off. Again this isn't exactly true, he was very projectable as a dominant CL type but his other offspeed stuff was at least passable for him to be a SP. Buchholz still is the crown jewel of the Red Sox. Again he is in his rookie season, has ace type stuff. There are very few AL SPs who are striking out a batter an inning. And since you are saying to watch the film, at this time last year Jon Lester looked very mediocre and Buchholz was looking very good. Luckily we have both now .
  15. No there was a rain delay
  16. 6.0 IP, 6 hit, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
  17. If STL was at all interested I'd be on the phone with them since they have some pieces we could really use. I doubt they would trade Rasmus but C Bryan Anderson is probably the 2nd or 3rd best catching prospect in the minors and would be ready to step in next year.
  18. Yanks get: Nady, Marte Pirates get: Ohlendorf, Kontos, Coke, Tabata http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3505686
  19. Very nice performance from Masterson
  20. Quite impressive for a 17yr old to be in A-ball.
  21. wow where have I been, Guzman is actually good now?
  22. Noooooooooooooooooooo
  23. Who cares about the position players, they play every inning every day
