I don't doubt for a second that the Sox will inquire as to what it'll take to get ARod...they won't mortgage their farm system or anything, and I think the Sox price will be a lot higher than anyone elses being that they're in the same division, and obviously the Ortiz scenario is unheard of, but I absolutley, positively think it's a FAILURE on the part of the Sox front office if they don't at least check out what it would take. The guy has had a couple of bad postseasons...he's still THE BEST PLAYER IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE

Just a heads up...there's not a player on the Sox, with the exception of Ortiz, I wouldn't trade for Reyes. Guy is one of the most exciting players to watch I've seen in a loooooooong time.

I don't think there's any way the Angels make the trade. ARod, with the exception of Pujols, is the best player in the game today, and probably of the past 25 or 30 years. He's going to command more than Ervin Santana...I think the Yankees would ask for Santana, Maicer Izturis, and Scott Sheilds in exchange for ARod, especially if the Yanks are going to agree to pick up the bulk of ARod's deal, which they would definitley have to do. They'll go after Izturis because he's not a huge player, but Duncan isn't ready yet, IMO. I think that makes the price tag too high for LAA. They need a big bat to protect Vlad in that lineup, but they can't mortgage a rock solid late-inning/set-up man, an EXTREMELY hot young pitching prospect, and a solid SS to get it. I think a more likely scenario is that ARod gets sent to San Diego for a deal that includes Scott Linebrink and some prospects. The whole Pinella going to Chicago thing kinda flips some stuff upside down, too, though...:dunno:

I don't know...clearing someone to play, and saying that their arm is in good shape and in 26 year old shape are two entirely different things. I just can't see how one doctor's opinion can be soooooo far from anothers. There must have been some kind of indicator that something was up.

I ran into Buck O'Neil a couple of times at Hall of Fame inductions (Not literally...and I'm glad, I think even at 94 he could have taken me...haha) and you seriously couldn't have asked for a cooler guy. He took the time to take pictures with fans, and even turned around during the ceremony to ask me if I could see ok or if I wanted him to move over a seat. What kind of guy does that? I can't believe they didn't put him in when they put in a bunch of other Negro Leaguers that one year...why did they have to wait to do it posthumously? A disgrace if you ask me...

I wasn't quite sure the proper place to put this, but I heard something rather disheartening at my softball game last night... My buddy Brian was in the Rangers farm system for the past couple of years...he was good friends with a guy who worked out with Beckett in the off-season. According to Brian's friend, a doctor who examined Beckett prior to his trade to the Sox said that his arm "is going to go at any day". We didn't hear it up here, because all we were concerned with were his blisters and what not, but apparently, anyone who knows Beckett and is in the baseball industry was absolutley SHOCKED at the Sox accepting the trade after that doctor's report. Needless to say, not what I wanted to hear about our young gun, especially after we gave up Hanley for him...

This guy's full of s***...although the Cubs scenario is at least relatively feasible, the Sox scenario is totally bogus. I whole-heartedly believe that the Yanks won't move ARod unless they can get a front-of-the-rotation starter. That's Zambrano, but the trade still doesn't make sense for the Cubs...they would never move their ace considering the fact that wood is on the shelf, possibly for good. Oh, and if by some chance this guy is on and the Sox do move Papi for ARod...I can say with 100% confidence that Theo Epstein will end up dead. I know this, because I will be the one who kills him.

I want the Sox to go after Soriano, but they can't look at him as a formidable replacement for Ramirez. Sure, it's going to be a wash in the field once Sori figures out how to play the wall...but the protection behind Ortiz is simply not going to be there without Ramirez. Manny is a basket case, we all know that, and have come to accept, even at times embrace, that over the years. But the fact of the matter is, the guy is I would say one of the top 20 pure hitters EVER to play the game. I've watched him first hand play pitchers like fiddles, purposely swinging and missing to set up later at-bats. He's refined at slapping the ball the other way, or pulling the ball for a mammoth homerun. He can bloop a pitch up the middle, or foul off pitches until he finds something he can do something with. These are the things that Soriano doesn't do. Take your chances with Ramirez or take your chances with Ortiz is a debate that pitchers and managers will weigh and think about for days leading up to a matchup...Take your chances with Ortiz or take your chances with Soriano is a no-brainer everytime. I want the Sox to go after Soriano, but he's NOT the replacement for Ramirez, even though the power numbers are similar.
