  1. Yea I'm scowering and can't seem to come across anything yet. Probably much to do about nothing.
  2. Wow...I've got a lot to win or lose tonight! Common Grossman, turn the ball over repeatedly and keep those points under 28!!
  3. Ha, touche. ...and in the words of the caveman on the Geico commercials...I'm not 100% in love with your tone right now.
  4. Everyone dogs on Boras all the time...and I can't stand it. Sure, I hate how the guy suckers every possible penny out of teams for the services of the players that he represents, sure he's a pain in the ass to deal with, sure teams dread having to negotiate with him, and sure sometimes he gets money that players don't neccessarily deserve...but those things don't make him an *******. They make him the best agent around...hands down, bar none. I'm not saying for a second that the guy doesn't irritate the bejesus out of me; he surely does, but he's FANTASTIC at what he does. Of COURSE he's not going to say that there's significant progress or any progress at all...he's not going to let the Sox know that they might be considering whatever the Sox most recent proposal is...they want to make it seem like there's no way in hell they're going to sign the currently proposed deal and try to make the Sox raise it up. They have time, they may as well use it to squeeze the extra dollars and cents out of their negotiating partner. Contract negotiations are a chess match, and Boras is Bobby f***ing Fischer.
  5. I can't wait until Drew plays 83 games this year, and the Dodgers are sending fruit baskets and a membership to the jelly-of-the-month club to the Sox front office for making it our blunder and not theirs.
  6. Sticks and stones may break ORS's bones but words will never hurt him!!
  7. If SeeRed wins, I'm calling shennanigans! Haha, just kidding, good luck everybody.
  8. Hahahaha, ok, fair enough...Damon's arm is in a class by itself...but Drew's arm is far from an asset. I think it was very strong when he first game into the league, but if I remember correctly, he had a shoulder injury a couple of years back that affected it greatly. Apparently, this guy has a history of injury problems...have any of you guys heard that? Hahahahaha.
  9. Drew's arm is average at best...slightly better than Damon, but not much.
  10. In all fairness to her...Theo does have a habit of overvaluing his own players. But then again, I guess that's what you have to do if you're interested in making out in the deal. That being said...I've gotta agree...Linda, your posts are just getting retarded. We'd love to have you here as a good contributor to the board...so turn into one, or just get out of here. No hard feelings, this just isn't the place.

  13. Are you serious? We haven't signed Matsuzaka yet...and do you remember last year at the start of the season when we had wayyyyyyy too many pitchers? That turned out well for us, huh?
  14. He met with the DBacks the other day...the freaking DBacks. If he pitches well for them and the Sox didn't even make a run at him, I'm going to be piiiiiiiiiissed.
  15. Alright alright, maybe I'll get jumped on here for saying this...but I get a kick out of Gom. And not because I think his posts are all ridiculous (sure, some of them are, but then again, so are some of mine, so are some of yours, and so forth)...I think he's got a lot of intelligent things to say sometimes. I think he has as much of a reason to post here and right to post here as everyone else. Everyone here's just gotta relax. We're not sitting in church, no one is really (at least not to my knowledge) out to hurt anyone by anything that they say...we're a bunch of guys (and a few girls) hanging out bullshitting about baseball. Take it at face value and be easy guys, common. Aaaaaaaand that being said...going back to the actual title of this thread...if Theo signs Drew as eeeeeeeeeveryone expects him to for approximately $15 mil a year, and JD doesn't hit 30 HRs, 100 RBIs, and play at least 140 games...I will NOT like Theo anymore. I can't believe the terms of this deal that are being thrown around...it goes against EVERYTHING Theo has stood for these past couple of years. JD isn't worth that kind of money, not on his best healthy day...no way, no how. You really want JD Drew making I think two years was enough of a freebie for him after bringing us 04. Let's keep in mind guys, that not only did he bring us 04, but he also helped dismantle the 04 team in the following years. I was actually on Jim Rome the other day on a huge rant about Theo...anyone hear me?!? Hey...one last thing...I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet...but would anyone be in favor of the Sox signing Mulder to a heavy incentive-laden deal? This guy was one of the top lefties in the league, not to mention a freaking HORSE before he had the arm problems...I'd be whole-heartedly in favor of it and am surprised we haven't heard about at least an inquiry.

  17. It was pretty much open ended...I appreciate the response. To be honest with you...I don't think Pena is too far off from being a dominant power hitter. Maybe not quite Dunn-caliber, but close. And I think that pitchers are aware of that, and he'll draw loads of walks once he learns to get ahead in counts. I'd say if Pena is capable of 300 HRs and 100 RBIs, the Arroyo trade would be well worth it. Face it, if you have a guy who produces like that in a lineup with Ortiz, Helen Keller could win 13 games for them.
  18. Nice showing, gentlemen! Thanks Rick.
  19. I don't disagree with you at all...my only arguement is that I don't think he's gotten a fair shake to live up to his potential in the big leagues. He's never had an everyday job...and judging by what he's done in only part time play, I think he deserves it. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Pena is never eeeeeeever going to be a guy who mixes finesse with power...let's just assume he's going to stay the quintessential raw power guy...would you say the Arroyo deal is a success if he puts up Adam Dunn like numbers?
  20. Yea Wily is a 4th outfielder now...but during the time he was in the lineup, he was one of our more consistent hitters last year. He produced when the other spots in our lineup went flat at certain times...batted slightly over .300 and averaged an RBI every 2 games. That, to me, is VERY encouraging for a guy who could never get into a groove because he didn't get constant at-bats. Very good points about the bullpen, however. You could always count on Arroyo to give you 6 or 7, even if they weren't a stellar 6 or 7. He did come up big in some big spots, too. I always liked him...I just wasn't one of the ones shedding tears when they made the deal. I, too, was guilty of thinking we had a plethora of starting pitching to start last year. On a utopian baseball team...your replacement for Arroyo will come this year and Wily Mo will get constant at-bats where he'll hit 35 HRs and improve in the field. Let's see how it all pans out.
  21. I don't understand why everyone decided to jump on the Arroyo bandwagon after he left Boston...the guy was a number 3 starter AT VERY BEST in the American League, and that's being generous. I think it's very easy to say it was a poor deal when you only have last year to go by when our pitching staff was so weak that some guys who made spot starts couldn't have won a little league game...but I think it's premature to say this is a poor deal. I still think Pena is a raw talent with raw power that we haven't seen in 10 or 15 years...yes, he needs to be refined, but you've gotta give the deal a chance to pan out before you can it. I agree with you about Theo, though. I feel like since 04, a lot of the younger fans kind of give him a free-pass to do whatever he pleases and never question him. I don't feel he's entitled to this...I appreciate what he did in 04, but baseball is a "what have you done for me lately" business...and lately, he hasn't done much. The Beckett deal wasn't technically Theo as he was busy in his gorilla suit during this time...so basically, if you think past 04, Theo hasn't freaking done ANYTHING since the Nomar deal. I know him and Francona are boys or whatever, but I couldn't belieeeeeeeeve there wasn't even stirrings about them giving Francona the axe...I know the Sox had an injury plagued year and there was nothing he could do about that, but there were AT LEAST 8 or 9 games that he gave away with bonehead moves in the late innings. That's way too many, in my opinion. I understand he was the skip when we won the series, but stillllllllllll, another free pass? Not from this guy.
  22. I'd MUCH rather get Wells on the team than Jones...but getting the Jays to trade him within the division would be next to impossible. And also, the only way I'd condone the Sox sending a lot of stuff to Toronto to get him is if we had a 4 year extension signed because he's a FA after this season. Is it just me, or is there anyone else here who's got a little bit of fear in their hearts SOMEWHERE that if we move Manny, the Yankees could then make a run at him from whomever we deal him to? I know it's a wayyyyyyy outside chance...but I shiver when I think about Manny in stripes...
