  1. I just heard this on ESPN radio, and I thought it was an interesting point so I thought I would bring it up: Does anyone here think the Red Sox bid so high to block the yanks from getting Matsuzaka with no intention of signing him? If the Red Sox don't sign him he goes back to Japan for another year and the Red Sox don't spend a dime. This is far fetched but maybe possible based on what Theo said last year, basically pleading poverty and saying the Sox can't keep up with the yankees financially. Flame away.
  2. No, as compared to a piece of s***. Yankee stadium looks like s*** too. That's why a new one is being built.
  3. Apparently the Rockies are one of the teams interested: The Rockies have called Baltimore regarding pitcher Rodrigo Lopez and the Yankees about Carl Pavano, whom New York would love to unload. Pavano, a bust in New York, has $22.95 million remaining on his contract, much of which the Yankees would have to eat for Colorado to get him. ... Agent Arn Tellem, on his client Kaz Matsui's return to Colorado: "It's the happiest he's been." http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_4659938
  4. Funny how the Sheffield trade came out today....I wonder if the timing is meant to take some steam away from the Sox..
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2656847 In return for Sheffield, the Tigers sent Humberto Sanchez, Kevin Whelan and Anthony Claggett to New York. Detroit agreed to a two-year contract extension with Sheffield through the 2009 season. edit: sorry, didnt see posted
  6. I'll go on record and say that I wanted him, and I thought the yankees had a good shot at him because spending money is what they do best. Sucks that they didn't get him, and it sucks even more because the Sox were the ones that did. Oh well, time to look at Barry Zito.. BTW Sox fans, if this is true, do you see this as the only big name the Sox sign this year? Or will the spending continue all offseason?
  7. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/jon_heyman/11/08/bargains.busts/index.html • Believe it or not, Pavano has drawn some trade interest. I know it's just a one liner, but holy s***, someone still wants him? Must be because he is 'rehabbing his butt off' this year I say trade him yesterday for whatever you can get.
  8. Jim Leyland will quit smoking.
  9. heh, I was thinking the same thing. Question - I don't know a ton about the process, but if a team loses a Type C free agent and they don't get any compensation, and they lose a non-ranked free agent and they also do not get compensation, what is the point of having a Type C class?:dunno:
  10. Is he entering the last year of his contract or something? There must be some reason he actually wants to see the field again..
  11. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Professional athletes should not canoe. When will they ever learn?
  12. Better than nothing. Plus we can control where he goes, hopefully to the NL somewhere. Can't say I'm surprised by his comments, but I thought he was ok with playing first. He seemed to be at the end of this season..
  13. It's a reasonable reaction to someone who takes personal shots. You'd have to read more of his posts than this thread to understand.
  14. Surprising. Thought Lou would go to a team that was closer to being a contender. Good luck to him.
  15. I'm still trying to figure out where in this thread I said I was grieving over Lidle dying. Yeah it sucks and it's a shame, but much like you I was thinkin about who would be our 5th starter next year about 5 minutes after I heard the news. You don't seem to actually read what I post unless I translate it into tard-speak. Must be that ADD kickin in.
  16. here comes another retarded insult from the comic mind of mr crunchy pure comdey silver
  17. You're gay and I hate you. I hope you die in a fire. Seriously. Maybe I should translate for those of us who wear helmets while sitting at a computer: youre gay and i hate you i hope you die in a fire on your way home from work today seriously
  18. fair enough. I just think that if you had a large enough sample size that the fluctuations you mention wouldn't affect the numbers that much, just like they don't affect each leagues ERA as a whole that much from year to year. You may have to go back 10 years to get a sample size large enough, but I think then it could be done. It's not necessarily about trying to exclude those variances, but more about minimizing them to at least the amount of impact they have on the league as a whole right now.
  19. So you don't have ADD. Just wondering. I apologize for letting honesty get in the way of the dialogue.
  20. Because as i said earlier, injuries/bad years/pitching through pain whatever you can think of is a constant for pitchers in both leagues every year. If you go back far enough when you take all of the pitchers who have switched leagues, say the last 7-10 years, the sample size will be large enough that this "noise" will be reduced to what it normally is year to year for the whole league. Anyway, I'm done with this. I get your point, I just don't agree with it. Let's move on.
