trot nixon has no power anymore. I'll take Pena's power over nixon's singles anyday. team's don't fear nixon anymore. he is too injury prone and his power went very quickly which raises a red flag to me. everyone is scared to play pena because they think he can't field his position. hes looked pretty damn good so far when trot has been on the shelf and given this team a better bat to boost as well. nixon is done as a player in my eyes and unfortunately it took an injury to him to get Pena in the lineup more when he should have been playing more before that.

I too would make the trade and I would stand by it. Pena is not a 4th outfielder by any means. He is a better player than trot nixon and should have been ahead of nixon for most of the year. Arroyo is nothing more than a 4th or 5th starter who would be exposed alot more in the AL.

According to mainetoday.com, Spann may be shut down for the rest of the year with his severely sprained left ankle.

They will replace Loretta next season and that isn't even a question.

They gave up nothing to get Maddux. (Maddux would not have agreed to come to the AL in my mind) and they acquired Lugo for Joel Guzman who in scouts books is a very good prospect but in my eyes is expendable and overrated and Betimit cost them Baez. The Drays would have obviously overcharged the red sox more since they are in the division and they weren't too happy when they heard the sox contacting lugo's agent. The Dodgers farm system is also significantly better than the Red Sox.

Cox and Masterson are both relievers though I would like to see if they can stretch out Masterson to start. Cox has a filthy slider that was on display at the CWS. Masterson throws a heavy sinker to get hitters out. Bowden is obviously the best of the bunch as he has 4 major league pitches. His 12/6 curve is very good and his circle change is becoming a plus pitch. The scouting report has buchholz throwing 5 different pitches but I have no reports on what he has been throwing in Greenville this year. His scouting report has him at a 2 and 4 seam fastball, slider, circle change and a curveball. Bard is a 2 pitch pitcher in my mind and its good he hasn't pitched this summer. His mechanics need to be broken down once he signs and goes to instructional league because he has shown to be too reliant on his fastball. He has a slider which at times can be good but his changeup is average at best. He has an intriguing arm and can throw hard and the UNC didn't do that great of a coaching job with him because his talent is very good and he showed average results. Johnson is coming off TJS but could be a solid pitcher. Don't know that much about him but he was very good before TJS throwing in the mid 90's at Wichita State.

The offense needs to start blowing out teams like the royals. when was the last time this team had a blowout win
