The Red Sox likely stayed away since he is signed for 7 million next year. Had he been a free agent this year they might have pursued him more but they likely didn't want him for 2007.
The point is people shouldn't be pissed that the sox weren't in on it after the deadline because they had no chance as he wasn't going to get through NL waivers.
He would also have to pass threw NL waivers before he can hit AL waivers and it was likely an NL team would claim him. So the Red Sox really would never have had a chance at him.
