  1. I do know that Steinbrenner hated Luchinno. He told Henry that he hated Luchinno. It was in a biography on Boss Steinbrenner. If Steinbrenner hated Luchinno, Larry is good with me. LOL!! As to who makes the decisions, we don't know. The player moves are the responsibility of the GM. If he can't call the shots, he is a worhtless puppet.
  2. I hope you are pranking about this, but he would be a perfect fit.
  3. Jays are reported to be out on Revere, but the Orioles are still interested. Ben, is holding firm. He says that he likes his team as it is.
  4. It has been a very busy trading season.
  5. LOL!! How long will you be here? I will be in Charlotte until Wednesday. If you are still around on Thursday or Friday and you are in NYC, we should meet for a drink. Pete and I can compare notes on whether you can kick UN's ass. LOL!!
  6. Jays in serious discussions about Ben Revere.
  7. Nice pickup by the O's
  8. Red Sox are reportedly interested in Tyson Ross and Kimbrel.
  9. They need to find the problem and fix it. Someone needs to be fired or reassigned.
  10. it is the only thing that has been interesting and fun in baseball for me since April. I only wish that the Red Sox were in the middle of it.
  11. kimmi, I like your posts that are backed up with stats. Do you have a stat or a press release to back up this statement or are you trying to absolve Ben by pointing a finger at Luchinno without any evidence? Even if there was a market for fat boy Panda stuff, the MLB licensingh agreement would share those sales equally with the other 29 teams. We could have let him go anywhere else and gotten an equal share of a panda product profits, unless Pandas are wildly popular in Boston in which case we would get a little more. Certainly, his marketing is negligible compared to his $100 million salary. I think the Panda marketing argument is the same type of red herring as the income streams that would materialize as the result of signing Dice K. Ownership set the record straight on that one. There were no streams of income that resulted from Dice K. The Panda signing was a bad baseball move. Nothing more.
  12. There is a big market for fat slobs.
  13. Outfield is a much different position. I would not call it easier. In my younger days, I played infield and outfield and the transition was no problem. Then I played IF for about 10 seasons and when I went to the OF because the team was short that day, I had no instincts at all for the position. At the major league level, the break on fly balls need to be immediate. Major league outfielders are amazing the way they break so fast on a ball off the bat and take a direct route to the ball. It is not easy, and the transition for a substandard infielder at age 30 cannot be easy and should not have been assumed. They didn't do their homework and they made a very poor decision.
  14. The problem is that they have no discernible strategy. The entire organization appears to be in disarray.
  15. Our catching has been okay defensively. A defense full of Paul Blairs, brook Robinsons and Ozzie Smiths were not going to save this pitching staff. He was wrong about the starters. He was wrong about the relievers. He was wrong about the defense, and he was wrong about the offense. He was wrong about all of it,
  16. it will be the extremely rare situation where a team will have success that a team can compete in the post steroid era with a team ERA over 4. Only the Tigers have done that in the last 3 years and their team ERA was 4.01.
  17. Red Sox are rumored to be interested in Carrasco
  18. Yankees interested in Kimbrel. Giants acquire Leake
  19. Orioles are looking at Parra and Revere. Cubs are in discussions with Cleveland about Carrasco.
  20. This has been a very active and interesting trading season. We are left out of the fun by being in last place. Our doofus GM has put us in a position where we don't even have good pieces to sell. Imagine landing Tulo and Price in the same week or Cueto and Zobrist. Their fans must really be enthusiastic about their teams chances.
  21. Bells, I think that is a great point. They might have mistakenly thought that the anomaly was a sound strategy. I think you might have hit it right on the head. Strong starting pitching is a strategy for sustainable and reliable success. I don't think that there is a credible argument to counter it. Every other pricking staregy is a crap shoot to one degree or another-- and the success of those strategies would be an anomaly.
  22. They are players. Organizations that are only concerned with the development of their top prospects are not doing the best by their organizations. Players mature and develop at different rates. Guys who were not blue chippers at the beginning can overtake the blue chippers. Good scouts can spot the kids with that potential, but the organization needs to develop them.
  23. Mike Leake to the Giants
  24. Y i am referring to overall pitching performance. Team pitching needs to pitch to an ERA under 4. Royals pitching is under that mark. They are doing it with a lights out bullpen. They are an anomaly. The only thing the split shows me is that their pitching strength will not be sustainable year over year unless they get some good starters, because it is very difficult for a bullpen to produce these excellent results with any consistency. The Royals approach is not a strategy for consistent success which is why they are making bold moves to go for it all this year picking up Cueto for the stretch run. They know that August can wear down bullpens and that their starter will have to be putting up more quality starts.
  25. One good starter that won 3 games in the World Series. They clearly had a stud number 1 and the rest may not have been #1's but they didn't have four #5s. You are moving the goal posts. No one has said that we need a mythic level of pitching. What you can't have is a pitching staff with a 4+ ERA. That would not compete. That is the best that our collection of 4s and 5s could have been expected to produce. They did far worse, but this group had no chance of being good enough even if they didn't underperforming. If your pitching is 4+ ERA it is unlikely that you will compete.
