  1. Based on never having played the position? That doesn't sound very reliable.
  2. No they are not, but usually a sound rationale and a failed move is the result of injury. But for injury, there was a miscalculation regarding the player.
  3. Looking for the rationale behind a bad move is necessary to figure out why the move went wrong and take steps to avoid those pitfalls in the future, not to provide an excuse for a bad move as that serves no purpose at all.
  4. My philosophy is that bad teams are the fault of bad team building and bad on field coaching. I think the players have certain abilities and that they are trying their best. I don't fault them because they are not talented or because their performance is limited by their talent. It was a FO error in judgment that they expected too much from the players assembled and essentially misjudged their projected performance.
  5. Kimmi turning on the FO? I'll have to see that to believe it.
  6. More Craig! More Craig!
  7. No, not a fan, but in retrospect, I can appreciate the job that he did.
  8. I would characterize 3 last place finishes in 4 years as sustained failure.
  9. I have never been a fan of any FO personnel. I think they are a bunch of overpaid knuckleheads that are in charge of a product that pretty much sells itself. To that extent, I have no bias. I will criticize them all. As for Ben, he was abject failure in leading the organization. That is not a bias. That is his record. I hope DD does better, but I will join you in criticizing him if he fails too.
  10. I am glad that you will be joining me as I criticize the moves of the next FO administration. I play no favorites. If DD doesn't get it done, he will be on my posting hit list. Welcome aboard. I agree with you that the FO is also a bunch of stuffed suits without a clue.
  11. The fanbase has been ridiculously and steadfastly loyal in the face of this incompetence. The Red Sox have rolled out a terrible product in three of the last 4 seasons. It was not suitable for consumers, but the fanbase has continued to fill Fenway and buy all of their junk and crap. The revenue streams have not been damaged. What has been damaged is that Ben has wasted $400 million over the last 2 seasons and came away with consecutive last place finishes. If ownership reacts to WEEI, then they are bigger idiots than I thought they were. The fans should get considered when the actions of the fans start to impact their bottom line. That hasn't happend yet. What has happened is that Ben performed so atrociously that he had to go. This wasn't just a down year. I will repeat. This is unprecedented failure since pre-Yawkey years. People like you need a wake up call.
  12. Maybe the owners are the problem. Unfortunately, they cannot be fired.
  13. It certainly reads like you have an open mind without any biases regarding this move.
  14. When the philosophy took full hold it stopped working in recent years as demonstrated by 3 last place finishes in 4 years. That is not success. That is unprecedented failure not seen since the pre-Yawkey years.
  15. Wasn't 2015 the year he was given to clean up his 2014 mess?
  16. You are a good poster, but this is nonsense. The "Nation" doesn't get a vote. I know this from my family's first hand experience as members of "Brooklyn Dodger Nation." He was fired for business reasons, not for PR.
  17. How much oversight that DD will be subject to is unknown. The problem that has been addressed is that upper management had lost confidence in Ben. Any strategy that he would have presented would likely have met with a lot of skepticism/resistance.
  18. He had no clue how to build a pitching staff, and that has been a huge organizational deficiency.
  19. In the words of Casey Stengel when he resigned as Yankee manager, "Heck, I did n't retire. I was fired."
  20. That is extremely unfair. Ben Cherington had integrity and he took accountability. He never misled anyone when talking about the moves which he was contemplating or the direction of the team. That is why when he said that he liked our pitching, I knew no moves were coming to add pitchers. People thought he was being coy and working the phones behind the scenes to get pitching. He was just being honest. When he recently said that Hanley would not be moved to another position this season, I also took him at his word. He is a decent honest man, but he is an incompetent. He is not Adolsama Bin Hitler.
  21. I will take 9 years of winning and a string of division championships. I don't care how he does it.
  22. Pal, you seem upset by this development. I'm not sure why as Ben earned his way out of the job. I am curious if you were the owners how would you gone about fixing the s*** show that we have watched for two years in a row? Staying with Ben would have meant by all accounts continuing the Hanley (LF) experiment and continuing commitments to Porcello and Miley. What changes, if any did you think needed to be made, or were you willing to stay the course?
  23. I am not quite sure why ownership would let Ben hire Dipoto if they were going to hire Dombrowski unless they sought his approval in advance.
