  1. Daniel Nava signed a minor league deal with the Angels.
  2. Exactly, i don't think anyone dislikes him. The discussion is about his accomplishments. I just can't swallow that 3 last place finishes (unprecedented by a Red Sox GM) is a good job. In addition to his poor track record in the standings, organizationally, he left our pitching in very bad shape. As for the argument regarding whether he got fired/replaced, some people are living in a fantasy land or they just like to make absurd arguments out of boredom.
  3. Only because he couldn't fire the ungrateful fans who are the real culprit in this.
  4. He didn't get fired! Don't you get that? Lol! He is highly sought after and he is just playing hard to get. DD is just keeping his seat warm.
  5. They should go hard after the Marlin's Fernandez or the Mets" Harvey.
  6. So, the discount is based on the number of years. That's a crappy discount.
  7. Cueto 6 years @ $130 million vs. Porcello 4 years @ $82.5 million. $21.6 million vs $21.1 million per year. More evidence of the lack of value in Porcello's extension. An extension should be at a discount. This contract was at full retail for a free agent plus a premium.
  8. Some Sox fans don't understand that Ben is the only GM in the history of the team to finish last 3 times. If you want to find a silver lining in that, he did make certain good moves, but his record is not a good one.
  9. If Ben didn't leave the Red Sox because he had been essentially replaced and demoted, then he is just a quitter.
  10. He was supplanted. He didn't have the same responsibilities.
  11. As a tax/benefits attorney for more than 30 years, a significant diminution of responsibilities and change of function to which Ben would have been subject would have been enough to trigger a Severance package in many organizations. This is done to recognize that the person had been fired even though employment was not terminated. In the words of Casey Stengel at a Press Conference after he resigned as manager of the NY Yankees, "Heck, I didn't resign. I was fired." That's the reality.
  12. I was thinking the same thing about Cueto. I don't know if DD has hi on his radar, but that would be a pretty strong staff if he joined the Red Sox.
  13. NESN viewership I think has been a concern going back to 2010 or so.
  14. It was a huge overstatement and oversimplification. Ben was able to remain at the helm for 3 last place finishes precisely because the Red Sox attendance and revenue was not being impacted to any great extent. As I stated many times before, merchandise revenue gets shared 30 ways. As long as MLB merchandise sales are up, the Red Sox' share increases regardless of whether sales of Red Sox merchandise goes down. It is never easy to fire a good person like Ben. Ben got fired because he was doing a lousy job. He forced their hand. You just can't deal with the fact that his firing was the result of his own performance and nothing else.
  15. I must have missed the mass protests on Yawkey Way demanding Ben's head. Despite the horrible teams that he rolled out there in the last 2 years, the fans packed Fenway Park game after game and there was very little booing. No, it was not the fans that fired him. The owners responsible for a billion dollar franchise realized that Ben was over his head running the team. Saying that the fans were not patient enough is just ridiculous. Cub attendance decreased during Theo' s first 3 years from 2011. Red Sox attendance has held very steady.
  16. I am familiar with the Vin Scully quote. I have quoted it myself and agree with it.
  17. Had DD declared himself to be a traditionalist? Is that some sort of club or official ideological philosophy? Has he denied statistics?
  18. Are you fundamentally at odds with DD's use of stats?
  19. If Vasquez is going to be the Red Sox catcher of the future, Swihart's highest and best use to the Red Sox is probably as a trade chip as his bat is not a premium bat for first base or third base.
  20. Sometimes I just shake my head.
  21. Theo continues with a very busy offseason stocking his roster:
  22. The Angels filling a need.
