I am not in panic mode, but I don't expect this team to produce the same number of runs as it did last year with Big Papi. Losing 40 HRs, 115 RBI, the league leader in Xtra basehits will have an effect. He was also a pretty good OBP guy.
I love it when it blows up in the face of a manager who tries to be a smarty pants by making moves like Girardi did today. LOL!! Screw you, Girardi.
I liked watching smarty pants Showalter get ejected too.
I am still waiting for Moreland to flash that gold glove. I have seen balls clank off his glove, but no highlight reel worthy plays. I don't think we gain much if anything over Hanley at 1st.
None of those B's stands for Big Bopper. We don't have one. We don't have a guy with the possible exception of Hanley who can miss the sweet spot and still drive the ball out of the park. We also don't have the guy that the opposing pitcher needs to bear down to keep in the park. That takes something out of the pitcher. Those high leverage pitches take it out of a pitcher. The issue is pretty clear. 40 HRs and 115 RBI got subtracted and nothing got added.
Sitting at the Cubs game last night, I saw what we are lacking. They have 2 aircraft carriers in their lineup-- Bryant and Rizzo surrounded by nice good professional hitters. We are missing the centerpieces who make everybody better. The pitcher's have to approach those guys differently to keep them in the park. We don't have those threats. Losing Papi will have a cascading effect. We will not have 3 guys with 30 fingers this year. We will probably have 1.
I haven't been impressed by his glove so far and not in Spring training either. He wanders to far toward second base too often. And his hands are not The greatest on picks
The Yankees are definitely playing over the heads. Their pitching will not keep up their recent performance is not sustainable.
As for our offense, we are going to have a big down tick losing Big Papi. That HOF bat does not leave without it hurting. People who think otherwise are kidding themselves.
At the game mojo for A700Hitter. Normally, I am very confident at Fenway, but our band of munchkin hitters are missing their Big Papi. Maybe we can move Lego Papi into the dugout for intimidation. I am here to give Theo and his Cubbies hell!
