I love when a .240 hitter without much power gets beat by an 0-2 pitch but manages to hit a weak ground ball or pop up to the left side of the infield against an over shift on the right side of the diamond. I often think how if I were the pitcher how I would grab the manager by the throat at the end of the inning and tell him that I didn't need his help to get out the #8 hitter.

The fans have despised him for a long time. He didn't have a lot of support from his players either. Couple that with him being a terrible game tactician and a douche, he was past his expiration date. Yankee fans are rejoicing today, and that makes me unhappy. I hope they hire Farrell.

The post season experience is a big factor in players becoming more comfortable in those situations. The more repetitions they get in the post season atmosphere, they cope with the distractions and pressure better. Some players never get comfortable with those big moments.

I really don't think that was me. My problem with Buch was never his innings per start. It was his starts per year. And any comparison of Buch was silly as they are not in the same class talent wise -- never at any time. And I will repeat innings per start is not the issue that was being discussed with regard to Pomeranz. It's not an issue that I am arguing for or against. The issue was whether Pomeranz had over performed expectations in 2017. Clearly, he did.

I don't know what your basis is for such certainty that Bogey will improve. His OPS in 2017 was 2 points lower than his career average and the league seems to have him figured out that he can't hit a slider and he has shown a complete inability to adjust to that pitch. Benitendi could easily experience a sophomore slump as the league adjusts to him. I hope not, but I can't be certain that he will improve. i am not expecting the same from Pom in 2018 as we got from him in 2017 which may have been his career year. Kimbrel had a career type year as well. He K'd about half the batter's who he faced and had the second lowest WHIP of his career (0.68). Vasquez had a very good year. I would be happy with the same performance as in 2017. I don't know on what you are resting your hope for improvement in 2018.

Any team that stands pat will be left behind. For every guy that steps forward another will take a step back.

And all the guys who have 1 more inning per start who you are comparing him to are #1's. The other non #1's work 1 more out, maybe 2. Anyway, you and Sk have gotten lost in an irrelevant detail. The issue being discussed was whether or not Pomeranz had outperformed everyone's expectations. He pretty clearly did, and he pretty clearly was our #2 throughout the season, regardless if he averaged 5.3 or 5.7 innings per start.

My stats are not flawed. Strasburg breaks down every season around 150 innings and has to be coddled and no one would argue that he is not a #2. Lester had a bad season, but he has always been durable and he was still the Cubbies #1/2. Pom was 19 in IP in the AL. Since there are 15. Teams, his IP count is solidly near the top of the list for #2's.

Anyone who says they predicted this type of season from Pomeranz would be lying. Plus, he started out on Spring Training with an injection into his elbow. Most people would have predicted DL before the would have predicted the season that he had. He had good innings count at 173 for a #2. Strasburg and Kershaw had 175. Arrieta had 168. Lester 170. And there are plenty more. The innings criticism is bogus.

We got big over performance from Pomeranz. He filled the void as the #2 that was left vacant by Price and Porcello.

I believe that Tanaka can opt out in the off season. If he does, I don't think the Yankees will resign him after such an uneven season where he was terrible for long stretches. CC will only be resigned for 1 year if at all. 2017 was his last gasp. Not only will he and his creaky knee be a year older, but the league will go to school on him and adjust to his junk balling style. I expect him to take a big step down. Severino took a big step up in his innings and could feel the effects next season. As for the young guys, the banquet season will soften up some of them. The league will continue to adjust to Judge who may not hit more than .250 next season. Sanchez's problems behind the plate have nothing to do with things that can be taught like footwork. He can't block balls or catch throws. He will continue to be a liability behind the plate. They will need to fill their 3rd base hole. Hicks stinks in CF. Robertson will be gon from the pen. Gardner will probably be gone. Lots of holes and lots of problems will result in a 4th place finish imo.

Third place for your boys next season. Book it.
