1. Okay, since ARod's dad is a pretty tough customer, this question will be a followup about SuperChief, Allie Reynolds. He pitched a no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox. Who made the last out in that no hitter, what were the unusual circumstances of that last out?
2. Okay, the last question for this evening coming in 5 minutes.
3. Reynolds is correct! Congrats ARod2212! Your pop knows his stuff. and the answer came within 2 minutes. You have used one of your lifelines.
4. His nickname was SuperChief. Name him.
5. It is my opinion that several, no make that most, no make that all of the Yankee fans on these Boards who profess great knowledge of Yankee history really know very little about it. I will periodically post a Yankee trivia question. These question will be from different eras of Yankee history. I will not use electronic or other research aids in formulating these questions. These questions will come from my own feeble memory. Hopefully, I know the right answer. lol!!! I will issue a warning post to signal that a question will be coming in 5 minutes. After the question is posted, the correct answer must be given in 2 minutes to prevent any internet or other research to get the correct answer. If this time frame proves inadequately short or long, I will adjust it.
6. Trick question I admit, but I am impressed with the attempt, 4 Reasons to Hate Us.
7. No, there were 8 former Red Sox Champions. Waite Hoyte came from the Sox, but never planyed on a RS Champion.:thumbdown
8. That would be lunacy. The only thing that could come from that would be to ruin the kids confidence and expose any weaknesses to other major league teams ruining his trade value. Let him come to camp for the first week, and send him down on the 15th after I leave Fla. lol!!
9. I know plenty of history, but I don't crow about something I didn't experience. Speaking of history, do you know how many former Red Sox champion ballplayers were on the first Yankee Championship team. There were a few more than Ruth. History,I know my history.
10. Yes, Yaz's Triple Crown got me started with the Red Sox. I bought Yaz Bread by Arnold's and had a Yaz hat. I don't talk about stuff that I have never seen such as the 5 Championship before 1920 that I did not see. How could I possibly enjoy something like that other than from a historian's point of view? So, to me the score is 6 to 1, because that is all that I have witnessed. A few of you should change your user names; e.g. "4 reasons to hate us" and "4 to 1."
11. So you witnessed 77 and 78?
12. Did any DiamondBack fans harrass you? Probably not, and plenty of teams have lost tough World Series in 7 games, but none have experienced the humiliation that the 2004 Yankees experienced. I'll bet a more than a few Red Sox fans bothered you about that loss. If not, let remind you about the great choke.
13. Correction, the Damon thread was originally meaningless, but it has degenerated into something that is pointless as well. I am happy to have contributed.
14. Yes, I did. Cheers!
15. An undisclosed team or a Mystery Team?
16. Good for him. I am sck of hearing how Japanese players are more loyal than American players. Ichiro and Matsui and others did leave their native lands to chase the pot of gold in the US. They are just like the rest of the players from around the world. It's all about the money. Thank you Hideki for putting the loyalty myth to rest.
17. You are how old? 16 or 17. So, you were 8 when the Yankees won in 1996. You didn't even know what the Infield Fly Rule meant. So, you have seen 4 WS Champions and 1 RS WS Championship. You didn't see Bucky or Buckner. You have seen Aaron Boone, but that year you lost the WS to an expansion team. You did get to see the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS with the biggest comeback of all-time, or in the Yankees case-- the biggest choke of all-time. So, what are you squawking about with this 26 reasons to Hates Us. You've seen 4. I've seen 1. The score is 4 to 1, and our 1 was record-breaking.
18. You are still missing the point. Beating the Yankees is sweet, but losing to them is disastrous. You say that 2001 was much worse. Was it because it was the World Series, the freshness of the trauma of 9/11? How many DiamondBack fans made you suffer after that loss? Do you know any Diamondback fans? It's strange that you didn't mention 2003 as being worse than 2004. That was a World Series loss, and you lost in your house. When the Red Sox beat you did you hear about it from any Red Sox fans?
19. You are right. You are not getting it. The Red Sox winning is more enjoyable than the Yankees losing, unless the Red Sox are the one's beating them. But if we don't win, it makes matters so much worse if the Yankees do win, because we have to put up with the likes of thousands of Yankee fans like yourself walking around like arrogant asses. BTW when you lost to the Red Sox in 2004, are you gonna tell me it was just like any other loss. It wasn't worse becauseit was at the hands of RSN.
20. If the move results in an October where the players are watching the post-season from their couches, then the move would have been a miserable miscalculation. After the Beckett/Mota deal, this team only needed to re-sign Damon and a few minor tweaks to get to the top of the mountain. You don't build a team with a $120+ million payroll to play for the future. In a couple of years Manny and Ortiz will be gone as well a Schilling and Lowell and maybe Nixon. That's a lot to replace and be able to forecast a good 5 to 8 year run. What could you be basing that on? This team was built to win now. If ownership sacrificed that for 2 extra draft choices that may never reach the ML level, then I would say they miscalculated and someone in the FO needs to be held accountable. They need this team to make an October push. Anything less will be viewed as a major failure by the FO.
21. Let's hope it wasn't a miscalculation, that costs us a chance at making the Post-Season, and worse yet that pushes the Yankees to the top of the mountain again.
22. No way Wilson comes that cheap, especially after the money Reggie Sanders got.
23. The only throws to home that got anyone out were relays from Jeter.
24. He couldn't even reach 3B.
