  1. Damon was a good pickup for the Yanks. Coco will be a fine replcement with a longer shelf life.
  2. Clemens is not making a move. I thought that he would have made a commitment by now. I realize that he can't sign with Houston until May 1st, but does that preclude negotiating. As for the possibility of Dontrelle Willis for Lester and Del Carmen, I would do it in a heartbeat.
  3. Your very first link includes the following quote: "American regional dialects allow freer adjectival use of certain past participles of verbs than does Standard English." It's not standard English. It's a common regional misuse of standard English. The word "ain't" is also in the dictionary as non-standard english, but anyone using that word also sounds idiotic. Don't use the word. It makes you look ignorant, and I dont think you are ignorant. BTW You are owned
  4. Even if he is not the closer, Foulke would still be a very valuable bullpen guy if he is healthy.
  5. I disagree. I read that before they went after ARod they went to Nomar and offered him 4 years $48 million with an option that would bring it to $60 million. When he wouldn't accept, the told him that they would be making a move for ARod. And Nomar never gave any indication in 2003 that he wanted to stay in Boston.
  6. They tried to trade him because he gave ownership no indication that he wanted to stay. Never once did he say that he wanted to stay in Boston until the ARod deal was being negotiated.
  7. It's not a hunch. He has had the knees fixed. Reports are that the knees are in much better shape than last year, so why shouldn't that allow him to improve his performance. I hope he can do it, because they are a better team with a top-form Keith Foulke.
  8. I would not count on that. The FO gave Nomar a 7-year deal before he was eligible for arbitration, and it bought them no special consideration from Nomar at Free Agent time.
  9. I don't disagree that he has to return to prominence before he goes back to closing. I just disagree with others on this board who think he is finished.
  10. This is not quite fair, because Arroyo has more AB's than Wily Mo since the trade.
  11. His problem last year was his legs not his arm. He couldn't get any drive toward the plate and he couldn't locate. That usually equates to bad results. His legs are healthy as is his arm, so there is no reason to believe that a guy with his successful track record will not rebound.
  12. Foulke will be fine. Getting him back healthy will be a big addition to the 2006 Bullpen. He is still a premier pitcher.
  13. It's great to keep Big Papi, but by wiping out the option for 2007, they are essentially extending him for 3 years at almost 14 million per year. because the 2007 option was valued at 8.4 million. $14 million/year is full FMV.
  14. 6-8 weeks? What the hell did he break? A knuckle takes 6-8 weeks?
  15. Foulke looked very good today. No one could make contact against him. He got on strikeout with the fastball and one with the changeup. He was hitting 88 and 89 on the stadium gun. He looked confident and very sharp. Papelbon's velocity was down about 4 or 5 clicks from the night before. On Saturday, he popped the glove several times at 97. On Sunday, he hit 94 once, but mainly was working at 92-93. On Saturday, he poured consistent strikes, but he had trouble with his coomand on Sunday.
  16. Yes, and he went 16-14 that year.
  17. I love when Sterling bemoans about hitting in bad luck etc. He's going on about at'em balls, etc.,and he just gave the big Godzilla call. It's great!
  18. His last pitch was his fastest at 96.
  19. Waldman and Sterling think he was out, and they are not exactly impartial.
  20. We've beaten this dead horse enough. I think we made glue out of it. In the future, if I post something that you think is really dumb, call me whatever you want, but please don't call me a dry cleaner.
  21. He's Bellhorn without the walks.
  22. How has Unit's velocity been?
  23. I didn't see that kind of velocity from him. There were no radar readings at the spring parks, but he was lucky if he was hitting 90. Paps was throwing so hard in the bullpen tonight that I could hear the glove popping from my seat along the RF line. I was so far from the bullpen that I could not see his number, but I knew from the glove popping that it was not Foulke. None of the relievers from either team popped the glove that loudly.
