Any word on interest by teams in Foulke? I haven't heard any rumors about him.

Most people say that a manager can make a difference of 5 games on way or the other. Most years the Yankees have won the division by more than 5 games, so the manager's impact was not a factor. In those years where they won by less than 5 games, those were years where Torre burned up his pen and probably cost his team 5 games. In the post-season, he out-managed Bobby Cox in 1996. In the other four series wins, they faced teams that were extremely inferior to the Yankees. Anyone in the stands could have managed those WS victories.

Hanley was a 5 tool prospect. I don't see any major tools from Pedroia. He has average speed, an average arm and below average power. He's a midget with a big swing. That just can't work out well, unless he really alters his swing.

He does burn a bullpen. He can't seem to help himself from going to his horses to lock down a win no matter what the circumstances.

By max value, I don't mean as compared to other players. Not all of his players can be the highest paid. He knows that each player has a certain range of value. He'll max out that value for each player by taking into account lenght of contract, sign on bonuses, interest rate on deferrals. He'll look to get as much up front as possible in a signing bonus regardless of the length of the contract. He will max out the present value of the deal for Matsuzaka regardless of the length of the contract. He'll let the Red Sox have him for 7 years if it yields the highest present value. He's not going to waste his time worrying about his value in 4 years.

I read that twice and than three times, because I was so confused about it. I was hoping that there is another Richard Hidalgo that was a hot prospect that I didn't know. I am baffled if that report is true. The guy sucks, and he has a bad attitude.

I disagree. The biggest need was starting pitching. They were rolling real crap out to the mound 3 of every 5 days from the end of July to the end of the year. We saw the likes of Jason "the Ultimate Loser" Johnson, Kyle "KC Reject" Snyderand a host of others. None of these bums could go 5 innings, which put tremendous pressure on the bullpen and made it look even worse than it was. If we had a strong pen, that starting rotation would have killed the pen. Good starting pitching sets the tone. They did the right thing making a play to shore up the starting pitching first. Relievers are less expensive whether through free agency or trade.

Theo needs to build a good bullpen, and there will be no excuse if he doesn't. Bullpen pitchers don't cost $130 million, and even if there aren't enough on the FA market, he needs to get creative to get some quality arms, not Seanez and Tavarez. He also needs a #5 hitter, and there is no excuse if he can't pull off a deal for one. He also needs a quality SS. He let Gonzo walk for comparative pennies. If he let Gonzo walk because he had his sights on Lugo, he'd better get him. Otherwise, he has blundered.

If the Sox are thinking of moving Manny, I think they should have looked at Soriano as a replacement.
