  1. Worse. Milledge looks to be very ordinary. Losing manny would devastate the offense and I'm not sure that Heilman will be a star.
  2. Romo's race never even occurred to me, nor should it have. If a white Broadcaster brings up race in any way it sparks a huge debate and he usually gets fired. The double standard is unbelievable.
  3. If Matuszaka signs for 4+ years, Jacksonian first reaction will be that it's too long for an unknown quantity, and that Japanese pitchers don't do as well here. ...or maybe he'll respond to the signing by asking if he can close. He'll say this even though we've had to read post after post about how Theo is going to get screwed by Borass by only agreeing to a 3 year deal. Jacksonian, I think we know the make up of our roster on these boards. It will not be news tomorrow, if we sign Matsuzaka and Drew, but don't have a closer. It'll be news that we have Drew and Matsuzaka, filling two of the team's biggest needs. Theo knows that we need a closer. I don't think he'll try bullpen by committee after getting burned by that in 2003. I am not concerned about a closer as I am sure that he will get one. I am more concerned about the lack of availability of other quality arm for the back of the bullpen.
  4. I guess Matsuzaka is mentally already here: --Boston Herald
  5. ... and Mo is an injury ??? at his advanced age and in light of his elbow problems at year's end. Randy johnson's back is not looking too good for a big 2007.
  6. Thank goodness we didn't have google when Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with cancer. No one would have ever predicted all his victories.
  7. Yes a bunch of B players:rolleyes: : 5 time batting champion Boggs; batting champions O'Neil and Bernie; Tino; Cecil Fielder; Tim Raines; 7-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens; 200+ game winners Cone, Wells and Kenny Rogers; Wetteland, Mo; Chili Davis 350 HRs and 1300+ RBI; Pettite soon to be a 200 game winner; and 4-time All Star Knoblauch,; among others. Good job Joe.
  8. No one is cheap this off-season, except Manny.
  9. That's just ridiculous.
  10. Just heard on WEEI that Matsuzaka gave a farewell statement to Japanese fans. Hmmm. What does that say about Borass's leverage?
  11. They needed to go after one of these guys if they are considering trading Manny.
  12. The Yankees had 3 stud strters that year-- Clemens, Moose nd Pettite. They also had a huge bullpen advantage. Arizona had that head case BK Kim and no one else. He got outmanaged that series. He let game 6 get out of hand allowing Unit to conserve some pitches for game 7.
  13. We need #5 hitter. With Soriano, sheffield, and Lee gone, there isn't a lot to chose from except Drew whose value goes up with each signing.
  14. The Japanese league will not allow the seibu to flout it's league rules. Any thought to the contrary is pro-Boras propaganda. I' m sure that he is letting word of such tactics leak back to the Red Sox FO. I just hope that they are not stupid enough to believe it. Borass has nowhere else to go. Matsuzaka will be signing with the Red Sox or everyone involved loses a payday.
  15. Any word on interest by teams in Foulke? I haven't heard any rumors about him.
  16. Most people say that a manager can make a difference of 5 games on way or the other. Most years the Yankees have won the division by more than 5 games, so the manager's impact was not a factor. In those years where they won by less than 5 games, those were years where Torre burned up his pen and probably cost his team 5 games. In the post-season, he out-managed Bobby Cox in 1996. In the other four series wins, they faced teams that were extremely inferior to the Yankees. Anyone in the stands could have managed those WS victories.
