  1. The team has some high-priced talent, but I agree that it is not well-constructed. When ST started, I said that the FO still had a lot of work to do, and most posters agreed. We are all giddy about the season starting, but the FO did nothing to strengthen the weak spots like the bottom 4 in the lineup and the bullpen. All they did was move Papelbon back to closer opening up a hole in the rotation. I really thought Helton would be in the opening day lineup, and I was sure that we would have one more quality arm for the pen.
  2. Read my prior post. I saw it. Sure Jeter wants to win a championship, but have you ever heard the old saying that goes something like this: success is good, but it's even better if all your friends are failures. ARod, in this case, would be the friend.
  3. Millar can play there on a limited basis. He has a weak arm and he's slow, but other than that his OF instincts aren't bad. Youk, on the other hand, cannot play out there even on a limited basis. He will only go to the OF when you have less than 3 healthy OF's. It's saying a lot that a linebacker like Hinske is by far the better OF than Youk. Youk is lost out there.
  4. This team will score its share of runs, but it will slump because of the spotty production from the bottom half of the lineup. Add Helton to this lineup and it is a juggernaut. We need another big stick that will work the count and extend the lineup. It was a stupid move to pass on him. Please don't talk to me about the $ after everthying we spent this winter.
  5. Take a look at Millar's 2004 stats. He had a similar but better BA and OBP as Youk with a better Slugging % and OPS. If not a wash, the advantage goes to Millar, who could also play the OF.
  6. To quote Big Papi: "someone's gonna pay."
  7. Theo is contacting Clemens during the game.
  8. That's a good point. Maybe because they are still hoping he'll develop into a late inning guy for pressure situations?
  9. Maybe they'll cut him instead of Lopez when Timlin comes back. I think Lopez is pretty good, and with that side-arming delivery, he's definitely tough on lefties.
  10. Tito always makes moves after the game is out of hand.
  11. Although Pedroia took a hard cut and a miss, his swing didn't look as long as it did last year and in ST.
  12. I thought Coco got that one.
  13. Varitek finally comes through with a big hit. Let's have the bottom of the order do some damage. Let's go Coco!
  14. A nice inning of work by Lopez after giving up a lead off triple.
  15. What the hell happened there?
  16. Nice hit for a run by Lugo.
  17. I'd be worried if I were you. He gave up a number of ropes and a couple of bombs. He had bad command and execution. The most worrisome aspect was the fact that he looked like he was going to s*** himself on the mound.
  18. Need a hit and run here with Pedroia. He's a contact hitter and Crisp has speed.
  19. Jeter knows the politcs of playing in NY and he is very much aware that people started looking at him with regard to the whole ARod thing. I am sure he's having dinner with him right now.
  20. This could become ARod's team. Jeter will not like that.
  21. Tejada spikes that throw.
  22. ARod with a double. He performs best on bad teams.
