  1. Here comes the Yankee offense. For all the talking by the announcers about how Byrd knows how to pitch, he's got nothing. He's BP.
  2. Wang s*** the bed again. In any comparison to Beckett, Wang comes up way short. As Torre walked to the mound the term "Dead Men Walking" came to mind.
  3. The Guardians will need much more than 2 runs.
  4. Wang is leaving his pitches up. Martinez just missed a high change-up.
  5. If Buehrle or Zambrano was available, I'd have preferred to put the money towards a younger established arm. Most of the big name pitchers have re-signed with their teams. There is really no impact pitcher available on the FA market. Schilling will attract a lot of attention due to the lack of available pitchers. In the end, he will get more than the $13 million/year he was asking for in Spring Training. If he walks, we are left with Beckett, Dice K, and 3 question marks. We all love this kid Bucholz, but we really don't know if he is ready to hold down the third or fourth rotation spot for the entire season. Lester is a question mark, and Wakefield has been showing a tendency to break down the last two years with back problems. I think the Sox need to re-sign Schilling.
  6. The better argument is that Wang will benefit from opposing Byrd who has lost something like 7 in a row against the Yanks.
  7. Yes, let's look at numbers. Look at the career list for the following categories: Winning %, WHIP, Hits/9 innings, K's/9 innings, and Adjusted ERA. Tell me where Clemens or even Cy Young are in those categories. Pedro is in the top 3 of all those categories, except where he has just barely slipped to # 4 behind Ryan in Hits/9innings. Also, tell me if there are any other statistical categories that are better indicators of a pitcher's worth. He's not only the best pitcher to wear a Red Sox uniform, but the best of all time. I saw the Rocket from his rookie year and I watched all the big pitchers from the 60's. None of them can claim to better than Pedro. Edit: These numbers go beyond his prime. His prime was other-worldy, and frankly, his career numbers are close to other-worldy.
  8. If the Guardians light up Wang again, the Yankees will still manage to outscore them, because Byrd stinks.
  9. Wedge needs to know that you have to keep your foot on the Yankees' throats until they stop breathing...and then you need to stab them in the heart to make sure that they are dead. Sabathia and Carmona should pitch games 4 and 5. Going with Byrd is like forfeiting a game.:thumbdown
  10. Brother of Home Run Derby lives up to the family name.
  11. Manny styled and Weaver didn't notice because even he turned around to see how far that one would go. I'd say about 445
  12. I'm going to the bar for the duration. Hopefully Papi goes deep right here.
  13. He beat the throw but clearly came of the base while Lowell kept the tag on him.
  14. He came completely off the bag. The ump picked his head up to sell the call to Lowell and he missed the call.
  15. Youk should have stepped on the bag and gone for the tag play on the slow Rivera.
  16. Rivera is very slow. He's no threat to run.
  17. I don't think it was just a coincidence. The only other time he was on the DL the team experienced a similar precipitous collapse-- the 2 worst collapses thaey have had in the last 10 years.
  18. Nice stop by the ump. It cost us a run. Big squander.
  19. Crisp swung at one way out of the zone.
