  1. Some would call this closer by committee. I call it closing with garbage.
  2. Nunez didn’t swing at the first pitch. Miraculous.
  3. And as soon as you pay the guy a compliment...
  4. He’s a mess right now. If the pitchers just stubbornly stay on the outside, he will have to make adjustments. It took Xander a long time to make the adjustment to take away the outside part of the plate from the pitchers and his power numbers suffered for a time, but he learned to get on base.
  5. That is a real order, and he would have to think about his family’s safety too.
  6. Which part is the rumor, the drug lord part or the police complicity? If either or both turn out to be true, I don’t think he should return. When big drug money is involved, Justice systems get corrupted. I would never feel safe again, maybe not even in the US, but i’d take my chances here.
  7. It wasn’t the easiest read in the world and he is probably not too familiar with their OFers. Did the announcers mention it.
  8. I know that Papi loves his homeland and his people, but if a drug lord is behind this with the complicity of police, he should never return there, and he should get his family out too.
  9. 6 people are in custody and another one is still at large. Robbery has been ruled out. It was a planned hit - an assassination attempt. Just nuts!
  10. I thought Marco got a very bad read on the Bradley Basehit keeping him from scoring. Good hold by the 3B coach. He would have been a dead duck.
  11. Mookie is still playing with his head up his ass. The bases were loaded with no one out and Chavis had just walked on 4 pitches and Mookie swings at the first strike. I was in disbelief, and I was thankful that it wasn’t Nunez who would have put that first pitch in play for a home to first DP.
  12. Get ready for a late night.
  13. Mookie is still stinking. Benintendi is stinging the ball today.
  14. My @ the game mojo has sucked this season. I am hoping to turn the corner tonight. If Rick avoids a multi-run Porcello, he will be okay.
  15. True. Last year’s team would have won that game with the same personnel. On this year’s team no one stepped up when needed. They were lackluster to the last man.
  16. Max, last night was a team effort including the manager. The umps also got into the act of stinking. It was awful all the way around.
  17. On the bright side, Mookie did hit a HR and flew out on a 400 foot drive. Maybe he is about to break out at the plate.
  18. Beni was engaged after he hit 1B. LOL!! Umps were completely whacked out last night. I still think Cora could have put on a better show. I thought the Woodward put on a better show.
  19. Sorry, but you have to make an effort. If for nothing else than to alert Holt to where the ball is. Let’s not make excuses for lack of hustle. The ballpark was in disbelief that no one made an attempt on the ball or to alert Holt. The whole team just stood there. It would not have been a long run from 2nd base to get Holt’s attention if Marco started to run out there.
  20. I saw it. He did nothing. On the radio, I think Merloni mentioned how Betts didn’t move on that ball. I can’t be sure if I heard it on the radio or on the TV post game, but Betts acted like he was waiting for a bus. What would have been the ruling if the fan had reached over and grabbed the ball? I think it would be up to the umpire’s discretion to let the HR stand. I think I would have grabbed the ball and let security escort me out. At least , I would have made an effort on the ball.
  21. First DD needs to light a fire under Cora who then needs to light a fire under the team. You can’t do anything about physical errors, like Devers dropping a ball, but you can’t have the guys playing stupid or not playing hard. Right after Betts loafed a single into a double, on the next hit, he threw the ball to a different area code from home plate when he had no chance of getting the runner. The ball went to the backstop, where no one was backing up the throw. They were running the bases on that play like we were a little league team. Cora sat sat in the dugout with no urgency when Hernandez suddenly and completely lost the plate. No one made a mound visit when he started walking the ballpark. He needed to be slowed down if nothing else. Then he took out Brewer right away to put in Poyner who he left out there like helpless prey and the game blew up. Cora has at times sat passively as other games have gotten out of hand. Last year, he was on top of every detail, but this year he has seemed complacent. Even how he got himself thrown out of the game yesterday was lame. Managers don’t have a lot of opportunities to engage umps in the age of the replay. When he left the dugout, it was obvious that he was going to get thrown out. He should have got his money’s worth and been more demonstrative to charge up his dugout. The other manager got tossed with more flair. He had his dugout engaged. Cora needs a kick in the ass and he needs to kick the clubhouse in the ass.
  22. Holt brings a lot to the team and he did pull a couple of big rocks in the last 2 games, but he is playing hard. Mookie completely half assed it in the OF last night. On Andrus hit, I could see that he left the box thinking double. Betts loafed after the ball and didn’t even rush when he saw Andrus going for 2 after rounding 1st. His throw to second had nothing on it. As for the inside the park HR, Betts never made a move to come over to get the ball. He stood like a statue. Pence could have run around the bases twice. Even if Nett couldn’t get to the ball in time, at least make an effort. If he ran over screaming, Holt might have realized what was going on. Instead, he stood there and Holt was checking to see if he had all his parts and the ball was just sitting there and the only ones showing urgency were the fans in the stands who were screaming. Betts is just a little guy who wants to be paid like the other big flagship aircraft carriers (Trout and Harper). He doesn’t have the tools and ability of either of them. If he wants the big bucks, he can’t half ass it like he has been doing. Holt is not the problem on this team. He hustles. He’s versatile. He can do a lot of things with the bat. And he is cheap. The big money guy Betts has let this team down. Bogey, another big money guy, has looked unengaged too. He has been much better than Betts, but at times he has looked like he was not engaged.
  23. On Andrus hit, Mookie completely loafed going after it and throwing it in. Andrus smelled double out of the box. If Mookie has demonstrated the slightest urgency to charge in and cut off the ball, he would have held it to a single.
