  1. Welcome to TalkSox.
  2. With Lowell down, the Sox are short on right hand pop.
  3. You should be upset, because he was supposed to be a manager who demanded sound fundamentals from his team. He can't help that his players got injured or that the FO gave him 3 rookie pitchers for the rotation, but he failed at the one thing for which he has no excuse. There's no excuse that this team is so poor at executing fundamentals. They are worse than any Joe Torre team. It is not just the kids, but it's the veterans as well. That shows me that Girardi either does not stress the fundamentals (in which case he did not come as advertised) or that he stresses the fundamentals but the team is not responding to him. The latter is worse than the former. If the team is not responding to him, he should be fired. I hope he stays, because I feel very strongly that he is a terrible manager. BTW without calling him a failure, Michael Kay made the same exact point about how Girardi was expected to stress fundamentals, but noted how poor this team was in that regard. I did have another quote that is being used in a signature about the Yankees having no chance, because they are made up of rookies and old men. That statement was very early in the season. It is very uncharacteristic of me to stick a fork in the Yankees before they are mathematically eliminated, but the make up of this team with two untested rookies in the rotation made it clear to me early on that they had no chance. Blame injuries all you want, but if Hughes and Kennedy had stayed healthy they would have sported something like a 4-16 record. They would have had to been sent down whether or not they got injured. They had no chance with 2 rookies in the rotation and more in the pen. The only reason they stayed this close is because Moose shocked everyone and had a great season.
  4. I think you are confusing Lowe with Clemens.
  5. At what point will you give me credit for the accuracy of my statements used in your signature. I stated those things quite early in the season.
  6. 7 games behind in the loss column with about 40 games left.
  7. Will that idiot rookie Christian get demoted tomorrow? As I posted earlier in this thread, Girardi has been a flat out failure as a manager, because he hasn't done the one thing that was expected of him--- to have the team be fundamentally sound. This team is far less fundamentally sound than teams managed by the laid back Torre. Michael Kay made the exact same point about fundamentals and Girardi right after the pick off. The death spiral continues.
  8. Another cheapie win by Mo is looming. How often have we seen this?
  9. ARod gets on with a swinging bunt. Bases loaded. Soria is choking like crazy.
  10. Soria is doing his best to blow this game despite picking the idiot rookie off first with a 3-2 count to Damon and no one out.
  11. I do not buy into the theory that it is the lack of adrenaline of save situations that is the problem. The Yankee announcers have been floating that theory. Mo is as seasoned a professional as there is. The situation doesn't matter to him, but... it does matter to the hitters. My theory is that the hitters aren't as tight when facing him in a tie situation. None of the hitters in that situation have to worry about being the last out of the game, so they are more loose.
  12. ...and Gabe Kapler is batting third for Milwaukee in that game. He has hit a 2-run homer to outperform his former mates.
  13. KC has Mahay in to throw the game. This guy sucks, but he is much sought after by contenders. They should be grateful if KC says "no".
  14. It's their way of getting the fans to support their decisions. They will never tell the truth which is that their decisions are business decisions rooted in economics. I am not offended by the business aspect of getting rid of local heros, but their efforts to defame and discredit the player with a well organized smear campaign is despicable. I thought it was a low blow by Theo to have McCarver call Manny out on National TV by telling him that he could say that they would consider trading Manny if he would waive his no-trade clause.
  15. maybe he should move in with Papa Jack.
  16. But Bobby Meacham declared on national TV that Robinson Cano was the "best second baseman in baseball, bar none." I wonder if he was only taking into account active players?
  17. Hey, it happens. Pedro did bring them Mets a legitimacy that wasn't there before. By getting him, it made it easier for Minaya to convince other players that the Mets were serious about contending. Schilling in '08 -- $8 million and no wins. Not bad for a no-show job. Even the mob would have trouble justifying that kind of expense.
  18. The Yankees look to be in a death spiral. I think Gom is right. He posted that the Yankees died against Texas and we are just witnessing the decomposing of the carcass. I agree with what others have posted here that some Yankees have quit already. Forget the injuries, this team has just plain quit on Girardi. No one cares, except Damon. I was listening to the Minnesota Twins radio announcers during todays game. They comment extensively about the lack of life on the Yankee club. They noticed that there is no communication in the IF at all during the game. They also commented that they have not played at a "high level." The way they used the term they were not referring to anything statistical. They were saying in a nice way that the play has been careless and not fundamentally sound. They got pretty close to saying that they had been playing stupid. IMO Cano has quit. I'd bet money that Melky hates Girardi too, although Girardi is not the reason for Melky sucking ass all season. Girardi was supposed to be a tough manager that would go back to the fundamentals. In this regard, he has been a brutal failure. The Yankees will not fire him after the season, and for that I am happy, because I think he is a terrible manager. The Yankees need a major spark and soon, but I don't see it coming. I think Gom is right.
  19. The point I was making was that it was a little silly to beat up on Pedro for an outing when he gave up 1 run in 6 innings. No comparison was being made to Lester's and Dice K's work for the entire year. I'll take 6 innings and 1 run on just about any night from our starters.
  20. Lester 2 runs in 7 innings is a 2.57 ERA Matsuzaka 2 runs in 6 innings is a 3.00 ERA Pedro 1 run in 6 innings is a 1.50 ERA Who did better?
  21. The Rays just lost to the A's 2-1.
  22. Torre is just making an ass of himself with this. Tell the guy you expect him to play hard. Don't draw a line in the sand over hair. It looks like Yankee Joe is backing down. Old fool. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/08/manny_and_joes.html
  23. Nady with a 2 run job for a 3 run lead.
