  1. Exactly. Common sense would dictate that a doctor, nurse, fireman, or just about anyone other than a dopey profesional jock determine whether you are healthy and in need of medical attention. Would anyone here want Pedroia making health decisions for them. That would be beyond common sense.
  2. I am not disgusted with Pedroia. He's just following society's conventions. My father was and still is the best father that I could imagine, and if he witnessed my birth, it wouldn't have made him a better father or husband (married to my mom for 60 years and they still lovingly take care of each other). As a society, we are so busy indulging ourselves in our own emotions that the truly important aspects of relationships are lost. No, that is not Pedroia's fault. I don't blame him for playing the role that society expects him to fill.
  3. Don't look for them to contribute two night's in a row. If they were that good, they wouldn't be the top of the order. As for Pedroia... no rants. Today we deal with his 3 day baby sabbatical. Last week, it was Drew'as groin that was good enough to hit a HR and play RF for a couple of innings on Friday, but not good enough to play the next two games against Texas. Next, I guess we will have a guy go down with anxiety disorder, and we'll all feel sorry for him too.
  4. When it comes to raising children in this country in this day an age, I am just amused at what people conventionally believe to be important. Being at the birth is of paramount importance even though we have no memories before the age of 4. So many parents are asshats after that. We have parents driving drunk, some with their kids in the car and engaging in so much other bad behavior, or they ignore there kids throughout their teen years not noticing that their kids are unhappy, direction-less and are getting involved with dangerous behavior. Those same jackass parents will tell you what a great experience it was when their kid was born. I'm sorry, but that great experience of birth is a bit self indulgent to me. I experienced the same rush, but you know what... birth is a miserable painful traumatic experience for the child. What's important is what kind of parent you are for the rest of your life and the examples you set for your kids, not the euphoria of the "look what we made" emotion that lasts for a couple of days. It's wonderful that the baby is healthy and that Dustin and his wife are happy, but save all the other ******** about this. It is truly not important that he be there for three days, but he will be and the Sox will play without him and everyone is okay with it. I just find a lot of society's conventions to be phony and superficial.
  5. Kotchman, Green and Agon will allow Halladay to cruise through 3 of the 9 innings which he should complete with less than 105 pitches for the win. Buchholz should give up 10 hits including 3 HRs in 4 1/3 innings.
  6. The man who can't maintain a relationship for more than 3 months is going to lecture us on these issues. You gotta love it.
  7. This is possibly your stupidest post. You are equating playing baseball for millions of dollars with slavery? You do realize that the slave didn't get paid ... right?
  8. Family leave mandated under the Law doesn't require an Employer to pay the employee while on leave. As a benefits attorney for a Fortune 100 Company, I can tell you that he would have to take his accrued vacation time if he wanted to get paid. As far as I know baseball players don't get vacation during the season. I wonder how many days he would spend reveling in the wonder of life that he has created if he had to take the time without pay. He probably makes about $30,000 to $50,000 a game. If it cost him $90- 150 k, his family values would go right out the window.
  9. No Pedroia for Wednesday's game and possibly Thursday's game as well. If he misses Thursday's game, he'll have exceeded Bay's family leave. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2009/08/francona_pedroi.html
  10. Could Carter be worse in the OF than Youkilis?
  11. The only game they won in that WS was the one in which Todd Jones made his error. Their young pitchers Verlander (2), Rodney and Zumaya made errors in the other games each leading to unearned runs.
  12. I attribute that to senility and obesity.
