  1. No one is going to come to the AL and pich better, because you face 9 real hitters. Their ERA's will most certainly go up and they will not be able to pitch deep into games. We got a 37 year old Schilling from the NL. His ERA went up in the AL, but he was still a top pitcher that first year and he was a CY Young candidate. Everything is relative. Yes their ERA's go up, but a good pitcher in the NL will be a good pitcher in the AL. Their numbers will be worse, but overall AL pitchers numbers are worse. Also, the list of hitters who switched to the NL and did better was very small and unimpressive. It proved nothing.
  2. They play under different rules that allows pitchers one easy out even in the best NL lineup. If I were a pitcher, I would never sign with an AL team. Essentially, two spots are rendered useless, because there is little reason to give the #8 hitter anything to hit. J.D. Batting 8th for an NL team would never get to swing the bat. I don't think that the talent gap between the leagues is that great. The NL may even have more young talent than the AL, but the AL game is very tough on pitchers.
  3. Consistency in the third spot is a necessity. Consistency is tough for pansies.
  4. I think Lowell moves better than Lou Gehrig.
  5. When does Felix beome arbitration eligible, free agent eligible?
  6. I'd say that the difference between Tito and Girardi in the regular season is that Tito is prone to make mistakes by not making in game moves. He almost never PH's and he always seems to leave the starter in until the other team gets 7 runs. My observation of Girardi is that he makes panic moves even during the regular season. He makes plenty of moves, but often they make little sense.
  7. He's not a high OBP guy nor is he a big power guy. He has had just about the same number of ABs as Pedroia and about 400+ more than Ellsbury, and Ellsbury has the higher OBP. I don't see the potential fit. There is a reason why two good franchises gave up on a young player in two seasons.
  8. Pessimist! You are never happy no matter how big your lead. Just kidding. I know where you are coming from. The team is tremendously talented and they are on a role, but you have spotted their achilles heal-- the stupid manager who is still learning on the job. You know that all the accomplishments of this team can be undone by a couple of poor decisions by the manager in the post season, and you don't see him improving. I'd be concerned too, but i am considered to be a pessimist.
  9. Yes, and I found that amusing having watched Tito sleep through obvious PHing situations for years. If he does use him to PH, I think he'll use him to PH for AGon. We'll have to see.
  10. Tito PH for someone, anyone? Now you are dreaming. He's more likely to PH for AGon than Tek.
  11. Do you think Tito is going to bench Varitek throughout the playoffs? I don't think so. We can hope, but we know Tek will play against lefties at the very least. In 7 games, Tito will play him 3 games, so VMart will be playing substantial time at 1st as he is now. Youk will be at third and kotchman will be on the bench.
  12. So, I'll be thnakful for kotchman for something Youkilis will do. What if he misses a pick at first that Youk would have made. I can see that happening.
  13. So, I will be thankful for Kotchman if Youkilis makes a play at third that Lowell can't make? If Youkilis makes a play at third that Lowell couldn't make, would it make a difference if VMart or Kotchman is the first baseman? Why would I ever be thankful for Kotchman?
  14. Anderson is a complete zero. We would have been better of getting a valet parker instead of him. Kotchman is useless to this team too. He doesn't suck, but what is his role? I guess every year we need to have a slick fielding singles hitting first baseman named Casey.
  15. Number 23 for Ortiz. Plenty of speed through the zone on that swing. He now has 269 HRs as a DH tying him with Frank Thomas.
