This team basically quit after the trading deadline passed. Mookie hinted that the clubhouse was unhappy that no reinforcements would be coming. And I thought that was a shocking revelation. Players never say anything negative after the trading deadline. Let's face it, the team has looked dead since then, and the one aspect of the team that had been performing -- the hitting-- fell from 1st in run production to 4th place. That is a huge drop. It was like a stone dropping. The Yankees have scored around 100 more runs than the Red Sox since July 31st. That is incredible. Falling down to 4th from 1st in around 5 or 6 weeks is a precipitous drop. The radio announcers were talking about the precipitous drop last week. To me, it is indicative of a team that quit. For that Cora should be fired. Pitching injuries and AAAA bullpen were not his fault, but a team that quits is on him. He needs to go and so does his entire coaching staff.
