The bullpen stinks. I am glad that it makes you happy that the starters stink too. Cashner can be thrown in the Dumpster on October 1st or sooner imo. Porcello should be given a cake and a big goodbye card. He has had 3 atrocious seasons, 1 meh season and 1 stellar season. I don't expect that he will improve. For $22.5 million/yr, DD can do better.
Last season everything worked perfectly. This season has been challenging, and Cora has not met the challenge. This team has too much talent to be this far out of a playoff spot playing so poorly at home.
The Mets' manager Callaway was exposed as a buffoon last season, but this latest winning streak of 15 of 16 has some people thinking that he knows what he is doing. He does not. He is still a buffoon like he was last season. Maybe Cora has been a buffoon all along too.
In his 5 seasons with the Red Sox, Porcello has had 3 atrociously bad seasons, 1 meh season, and 1 stellar season. Overall, he benefited from his contract more than the Red Sox have at $22.5 million/yr.
There is usually a rationale for stupidity. Without a rationale, it would be insanity or mindless neglect. His managing yesterday was stupid on multiple fronts despite the rationales.
Cora engaged in a lot of stupidity tonight from benching Devers the game after he rediscovered his stroke to batting Sam Travis cleanup. WTF! Sending out Darwinzon for a second inning was more stupidity. He’s a one inning guy if you are lucky. As soon as he loses his arm slot, he needs to be pulled or he will walk the ballpark and he did. Then he brings in neck tat to get out of a tight spot in the late innings of a competitive game. Cora should just forfeit those games that he is going to wreck with his stupidity. At least, everyone would get a rest. Oh, and Sam Travis in LF. WTF is he thinking. I guess that he has given up.
Price DL'd with a wrist injury.
David Price placed on injured list
WWW.MLB.COM
BOSTON -- The Red Sox will make yet another adjustment to their pitching rotation after David Price was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday, retroactive to Monday, with a left wrist injury.
The lefty had been experiencing tightness in his wrist and underwent an MRI to address the
7 run rule. Put Sale, Price and ERod in a hyperbaric chamber until February 15th. Throw the bullpen until their arms fall off and then release them and start over next season with a new pen.
The super ball plays a part in all of this. The Red Sox roster was one that was built for speed and defense just as much as it was built for bashing. This season in MLB speed and defense seem to have no role. It's pure bashing.
The fact that the pen was expected to suck is not an excuse. It was the one hopeless blackhole of failure on the team that had no hope of success. That is on DD. The pen had zero prospect of being adequate... none. Eovaldi got injured (really our only significant injury). That was snowballed by a complete lack of depth inthe rotation -- DD's fault. Porcello has had a horrible year. Price and ERod have been good and reliable. The attempt to save Sale's bullets killed his April and has done nothing to stave off his second half deterioration. He has looked awful since the calendar turned to July. I am concerned that the health of his arm is an issue.
It’s all over except for the finger pointing. Injuries were not an excuse. The Yankees had far more injuries than the Red Sox which suffered no insurmountable injuries. The offense produces as many runs as it did last year. There were no anomalies from our offense. The failure was pitching. There was no depth in the rotation and the bullpen was a disgrace. The General Manager, manager and coaching staff take a major share of the blame.
DD and JH quit on the team at the trading deadline and the team quit on them in return. Now the fans will quit on the team. Everyone will be on the same page.
