  1. This isn't directed at "no one in particular"? What did you tell me about making assumptions? Let's keep it to the issues and not your perception of what my emotional reaction would be if he didn't work out. BTW: If it didn't work out, it would be the FO that would be accountable, not some fans on a message board. Of course if he were to suck, we'd notice. Are we supposed to pretend that it worked out if he clearly bombs? I don't even understand where you are going with that one.
  2. Why do you care so much if Crawford gets 20 million if that is what MLB excecs think he is worth? It's not like that $5 million extra for him will send the Sox to financial ruin. Heck, they have thrown away tens of millions on bad contracts in recent years and it didn't financially cripple them, e.g. Lugo, Renteria, and to a lesser extent Lowell and Dice K. I could understand if the Sox were to pay $5 million more per year than the next highest offer, because they would be setting the market. I'm not sure why you would be upset if they get him for market price. The guy is tremendous offensive weapon.
  3. The Mets might take less prospects for Reyes if we agree to take Beltran as a throw in.
  4. I'd rather have the fat Molina brother.
  5. I know that Mauer has had a bad and shoulder trouble from time to time, but i have not read or heard about him having a hip problem. Certainly, he has not had a hip fracture and torn labrum like Martin has.
  6. I am not aware of any catchers that came back to play effectively after a hip injury.
  7. Martin is a great catcher, but he has a bad hip. Why get a guy that will reside on the DL? That's just not a good option.
  8. Possible Roster: C - A.J. Pierzinski C - Salty 1B- Berkman 2B- Pedroia SS- Scutaro 3B- Youkilis Util- Lowrie Util- Hall/Lopez OF- Crawford OF- Ellsbury OF- Drew OF- Cameron DH- Ortiz P - Lester P - Buchholz P - Beckett P - Lackey P- Dice K CL- Papelbon SU- Bard LR - Downs LR - Dubront RR -Atchinson R - Open R - Open
  9. The more I look at his stats the more I think getting Lance Berkman for 1 season would not be a bad thing.
  10. Have Phillies made an offer to Werth? This is not solid information but: http://www.buckslocalnews.com/articles/2010/11/29/bucks_sports/doc4cf3ab25dc21b712676088.txt
  11. I have very little hope that Salty can hack it defensively, more likely he'll be a defensive hack. His record for throwing out base runners has been atrocious. Believe it or not but it is significantly worse than VMart and Varitek and even Javy Lopez.
  12. It could be, but we need some insurance in case Salty can't handle the job. Tek has slid into awful a couple of years ago. There just aren't many options on the FA market. Maybe they could acquire Ianetta. The big prize would be if they could acquired Suzuki, but he would cost a bundle, so I don't think it is very likely.
  13. A.J. Pierzsinski isn't a project. As for Russell Martin, we don't need a catcher with a bad hip. There is a reason he is being non-tendered. No thanks to a guy who will be assigned to the MASH unit.
  14. ... And right after you get Crawford get a starting catcher. I don't like so called "projects". I don't care how much talent they have. No one had more talent than Wily Mo. Look how that ended. When is the last time that one of these "projects" worked out for the Sox? Please tell me that there were some.
  15. Daily reminder to the FO: Get Carl Crawford Not interested in DH Dunn or Fatty Fielder. Get Crawford.
  16. :lol:I didn't say that I didn't understand your analysis. I just don't think it is a simple analysis. I think it gets complicated by the fact that there is no guarantee that we get Adrian Gonzalez, who is the only younger talent that has been discussed.
  17. I'm not agreeing with or disputing your analysis, but it doesn't seem like a simple analysis as you stated upfront.
  18. My bad. That's what I get for trying to post while trying to watch the NFL games. I will edit my post accordingly.
  19. Okay, then shouldn't we resign him based on those metrics? The variables would not be changing. In fact, the effect of those variables on his play are now known. There should be more certainty. He'd still be playing half his games at Fenway and in basically the same lineup. Based on that, shouldn't we resign him. It's really hard to find a guy to put up the numbers that he put up in 2010 with the glove that he has. He had a better year than either Adrian Gonzalez or Adam Dunn. Beltre and Youk present a better defensive corner IF combo than if we had eiter Gonzalez or Dunn.
  20. But didn't you acknowledge an element of luck in his 2010 season? Why would luck be involved if the metrics clearly indicated that he would have this type of year? Why would the FO need to cover their asses? We all knew he was capable of having the kind of season that he had. All we needed was to be aware of the monster year he put up in his walk year with the Dodgers to understand that he had the capability. We didn't need to perform any big statistical analysis to come to that conclusion.
  21. So are you concluding that his 2010 performance was not indicated by his statistical history prior to 2010, but that Theo took a chance on him because he had the skill set and capability to have a big season playing for a new contract? If so, it seems he played a hunch rather than looking at metrics. It was a good hunch, but a hunch nevertheless. I'm not looking to put words in your mouth, but just trying to understand your position.
  22. Really? I wonder how many people on this forum have 40+ years of watching baseball? If you are going to direct your critical comments to "no one in particular", maybe you should make those comments more general. Speaking for myself as one of the very few 40+ year fans, I was fully in favor of acquiring Beltre. In fact I had agreed with your pre-season stat projections and I posted that I thought he had the chance to do better. I'd research the posts to show you, but apparently researching posts is no longer a capability on this forum. When you criticize, you should not revise history or misrepresent the opinions of no one in particular. Even though I have said "you" in the post several times, it is not directed at anyone in particular.
