1. Daily reminder to the FO: Get Carl Crawford Not interested in DH Dunn or Fatty Fielder. Get Crawford.
2. :lol:I didn't say that I didn't understand your analysis. I just don't think it is a simple analysis. I think it gets complicated by the fact that there is no guarantee that we get Adrian Gonzalez, who is the only younger talent that has been discussed.
3. I'm not agreeing with or disputing your analysis, but it doesn't seem like a simple analysis as you stated upfront.
4. My bad. That's what I get for trying to post while trying to watch the NFL games. I will edit my post accordingly.
5. Okay, then shouldn't we resign him based on those metrics? The variables would not be changing. In fact, the effect of those variables on his play are now known. There should be more certainty. He'd still be playing half his games at Fenway and in basically the same lineup. Based on that, shouldn't we resign him. It's really hard to find a guy to put up the numbers that he put up in 2010 with the glove that he has. He had a better year than either Adrian Gonzalez or Adam Dunn. Beltre and Youk present a better defensive corner IF combo than if we had eiter Gonzalez or Dunn.
6. But didn't you acknowledge an element of luck in his 2010 season? Why would luck be involved if the metrics clearly indicated that he would have this type of year? Why would the FO need to cover their asses? We all knew he was capable of having the kind of season that he had. All we needed was to be aware of the monster year he put up in his walk year with the Dodgers to understand that he had the capability. We didn't need to perform any big statistical analysis to come to that conclusion.
7. So are you concluding that his 2010 performance was not indicated by his statistical history prior to 2010, but that Theo took a chance on him because he had the skill set and capability to have a big season playing for a new contract? If so, it seems he played a hunch rather than looking at metrics. It was a good hunch, but a hunch nevertheless. I'm not looking to put words in your mouth, but just trying to understand your position.
8. Really? I wonder how many people on this forum have 40+ years of watching baseball? If you are going to direct your critical comments to "no one in particular", maybe you should make those comments more general. Speaking for myself as one of the very few 40+ year fans, I was fully in favor of acquiring Beltre. In fact I had agreed with your pre-season stat projections and I posted that I thought he had the chance to do better. I'd research the posts to show you, but apparently researching posts is no longer a capability on this forum. When you criticize, you should not revise history or misrepresent the opinions of no one in particular. Even though I have said "you" in the post several times, it is not directed at anyone in particular.
9. Are those of you who are insisting that the Red Sox were not lucky to benefit from Beltre's 2010 performance in favor of resigning him? Certainly, the continuation of his 2010 performance would be well worth the contract he is being offered.
10. Daily Appeal to the FO: Get Carl Crawford. Get somebody.
11. Unfortunately, Jeter is a hero to many millions of yankee fans- not just pink hats. A lot of Yankee fans from the beginning of the Steinbrenner era don't care about the money aspect. If jeter signs a huge contract and has to DH after this season, they don't care. He's their man. They want him to be able to go out under his own terms.
12. I look at some other pictures of Anderson. Thanks.
13. Does anyone recognize this guy? He was taking pictures last week with some fans in Atlantic City. The photo is very poor quality.
14. I was just joking with Dipre because he has always been a staunch Drew supporter. When I saw your post mentioning Drew, I thought about Dipre. When I saw him post in the thread shortly after your post, I thought he had some JD telepathy.
15. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yankees/post_poll_nearly_out_fair_say_offer_edyGaDpru07frUa9LoutKM This also from the NY Post: It looks like Jeter is being set up as the bad guy by the Yankees. It will be interesting to see how this ends.
16. I was joking. Is this Dipre... the self-proclaimed defender of J.D. Drew? Read the thread. There are derogatory statements by E1 about Drew. Don't you defend J.D. any more?
17. I thought you would excoriate E1 for saying that he'd like to trade in J.D.
18. Exactly. If he read the thread, a lot of us would be happy with either one. However, Crawford would by far have the bigger impact. He is the much better player.
19. I don't know what you mean by "get him at all costs". Any team that signs him is going to be signing him for what they think he is worth. Hopefully, that is the Red Sox. I do think he is worth much more than Werth. He's younger and more talented. Edit: I'll be thinking it was a mistake if he stays in the AL and continues to be a Red Sox wrecking ball.
20. I'm in for that, but he is the only Marlins player worth watching. Their attendance would take a big hit. To justify moving Hanley, they'd have to clean out the Sox farm system. That being said, I'd empty the farm system for Hanley.
21. I'm not going to complain about getting either one of them, but I think it would be a mistake not to sign Crawford. As far as giving Werth a chance, he'll be no different than any other big $ FA. He'll be under a microscope from the beginning. We've got more needs than just an OFer at this point, and I have to say that I am getting a bit anxious waiting for stuff to start happening.
22. It depends on the height of the balls hit to LF, but after a quick look at the tracker, it seems that at most 24 would have gone out of Fenway. I have no idea how many of the balls to LF would have been high enough to clear the wall.
