    This is what I am saying. I will be very clear. 1. I think Price is still capable of a 2018 type season. 2. Dumping Betts and Price at this juncture would be the equivalent of the FO throwing in the towel on 2020. I didn’t say the players would fold. They will continue to try, but management will have decided not to go for it. 3. Arguing that it would not be conceding the season if they were to dump Betts and Price is either an attempt to troll or plain stupidity. 4. The FO will not dump Betts and Price. They might dump Price if they have legit worries about his health, but they will not dump Betts and Price before the season starts, because they agree with me on 1 thru 3.

    This is just more silliness. Replacing last year’s David Price ? We are hoping that he will be 2018 David Price in 2020. Vargas and other garbage you mentioned don’t even have that capability. Puig for Betts? It couldn’t be any clearer. If we dump Betts and Price at this juncture, it signals a forfeit for 2020.

    Those trades (of entirely unproductive or under productive players) were done before the end of 2012, and in the off-season, the Red Sox acquired Uehara, Victorino, Stephen Drew, Dempster and Napoli. Here it is already January. If we dump Betts (approaching his prime years) and Price (underproductive) at this juncture, there is no chance to bring in productive replacement parts, because there is nothing helpful left on the FA market. So, if we dump them from this point on, I will say "never" for 2020.

    ^ This is argumentative idiocy. Dumping Betts and Price effectively ends any possibility of the Red Sox competing for a World Championship. That is clear.

    Bloom has gone on record numerous times about the intent to keep Mookie long term. I am not against trading him, but that is not his mindset. I take him at his word.

    Plawecki is an adequate replacement for Leon. I think he has more upside offensive potential than Leon. Hopefully, next up will be some bullpen additions, and a depth move for the rotation.

    We didn’t need an interesting offseason last year, because we played until the end of October and were able to bask in the glow of the greatest season in team history. In the off-season before, they signed JD Martinez, Mitch Moreland and Eduardo Nunez. That was pretty interesting. The off-season before that we acquired Chris Sale and Mitch Moreland. That was very interesting. The off-season before that we acquired David Price, Craig Kimbrel, Chris Young, and Carson Smith. That was very active and very interesting.

    The bullpen needs retooling, regardless of any interpretation of last years stats. Workman was a nice surprise last season, but I am not ready to anoint him as today’s Bruce Sutter. Matt Barnes’ shelf life has probably expired. There are just no quality dependable arms in our pen. It is a collection of garbage.
