  1. They'll release Jorge?
  2. He hit an opposite field HR on Saturday.
  3. Unless Jose Bautista gets hit by a truck, he will lead the majors in HRs.
  4. Not true. After the trading deadline they went on a scorching hot streak that carried them through to the end of the season. They were clearly the hottest and superior team at the start of the playoffs. That is why being down 3-0 to the Yankees was such a shock. The Red Sox were favored going into the ALCS and they were favored in each of the last 4 games. They were the better team that season.
  5. He's not going in. Not a chance. Howard was a great defensive catcher and he won an MVP and he didn't make the Hall. He was on 9 All Star teams. Munson was far better than Posada and he is not in the Hall. Posada doesn't have a chance at being even borderline.
  6. Posada used to get in Manny's face for not playing the game right when he would hot dog it after homering, etc. At least Manny was a great player. Posada couldn't carry his jock, and now he has shown himself to be every bit the punk that Manny ever was.
  7. At age 26 (Salty's age), Posada had become the Yankees' full time catcher and he had a pretty good season. We'll see how Salty ends up this year.
  8. An off year with the bat for Posada would be a career year for Salty. Edit: And it has nothing to do with "not liking". Salty just stinks.
  9. He's still 10 times better than Salty.
  10. He's not walking away from all that $ left on his contract. He probably wants some catching time, and maybe he'll get it, or maybe he'll seek his release. It would be great if he got released, and the Red Sox signed him for the minimum and he shared the catcher position with Varitek.
  11. Let's not make a mockery of the game.
  12. I don't want to burn out his arm.
  13. I got in late for the game and just finished fast forwarding through the DVR. I'm loving this game. Beckett was filthy. Big hits by Lowrie, Crawford, Ellsbury, and Captain Varitek. Varitek got a big walk too. AGon is just a flat out stud. I'm liking this guy Albers more and more. If Jenks turns out to be a bust, Albers is a nice find.
  14. Tito's in game moves drive me nuts, but he has earned legendary status in my opinion. In 1978, Zimmer gave away the pennant by burying Bill Lee in the bullpen like a stubborn ass.
  15. There were a lot of great young Red Sox pitchers in my 45 years, and none of them broke the record. Clemens managed a tie.
  16. He deserves to have records for appearances, innings and other things that would reflect his durability. However, for him to have the distinction of the Winning-est pitcher in Red Sox history is completely misleading and it misrepresents his contribution to the Red Sox. The record for wins for an original franchise like the Red Sox conveys a level of excellence. Wakefield has not been an excellent pitcher. He has been consistently mediocre throughout his career and very inconsistent from game to game (and even within games) throughout his career. He has never, in his long career, been the Red Sox stopper or ace. He has never been even the second best pitcher on any Sox team, except for an improbable run during 1995. There may have been a year or two where he had the best or second best stats on the team, but he was never the top guy or number 2 guy. In a number of years he barely made the starting rotation. In my four and a half decades, I can think of many many pitchers who have had more excellent Red Sox careers. Obviously, if he gets the record, it's his achievement, but the Sox should make no extraordinary effort to keep him on the team in the hope that he gets the record, because in my opinion, he's not good enough to hold that record.
  17. As much as I despise Clemens for his Yankee years, Wakefield doesn't deserve to hold any franchise record.
  18. ... and it wouldn't surprise me if he were right.
  19. Sometimes I can be very succinct.
  20. I really think the major part of this teams dysfunction is the catching position. Letting Russell Martin slip through their fingers and land with the Yankees was a colossal blunder. They could have had him for a measly $3-4 million. It's inexplicable to me that after spending $300 million on 2 players that they pinched pennies at such a critical position where they were so week. That was not Francona's fault. Theo built a Space Shuttle team, but he gave the keys to a crackhead (Salty).
