  1. He hasn't been sharp in any of his outings,
  2. This SALTY Project is heading down Wily Mo Pena Blvd. Lol!!!
  3. I don't think it is an over reaction to observe that this kid doesn't belong on the field QBing this high-priced pitching staff. That's how it looks right now. Hopefully, he improves, but expectations are very low at this point. Of course, they have to give this some time, but he's bringing nothing to the table right now. That's not panic. It's just an observation.
  4. I think that they are concerned that the kid is falling apart and they want to limit his exposure. It was clear to me the other night in Anaheim that the team strategy was to not have him throw the ball in the early innings. On two different occasions, fielders didn't cover the base on steals. He doesn't know what to do when there is a first and third situation. He let's guys score from second base on passed balls. The coaching staff and probably the pitchers too don't want him out there. Once word gets around the league about how bad he really is, the big lumberjacks and fat catchers will run at will on him.
  5. It's not my theory. It's Gammons' theory. I prefer him leading off.
  6. I have heard this theory from Gammons, who believes that his speed would be more useful hitting in front of singles hitters at the bottom of the order instead of hitting in front the big boppers. Big boppers don't like the bat taken out of their hands by a caught stealing.
  7. I'll restate my reason. I am a strong believer that the strongest lineups bunch the best hitters at the top of the lineup. Ellsbury is not in this teams top 5 offensive players. Take the top 5 that i gave you and switch them around a bit if you like and I'd be okay with that. Maybe Pedroia first and Crawford second or maybe Youk third and Gonzo 4th. It really doesn't matter. The important thing is that they bat in the top 5 slots with Ortiz hitting 5th. This is all conditioned upon Crawford getting straightened out. Until then Lowrie is in that top 5.
  8. I disagree. Gonzo has to be #3.
  9. There is no comparison to Ortiz. One has a track record of being a tremendous offensive force who likes the warmer weather. Salty has no track record. Have some patience, but it shouldn't extend beyond the end of May. Let's hope he doesn't hit one of our starters with his spike throws to second base.
  10. I don't like this lineup. I am a strong believer that your strongest offensive players should get stacked at the top of the lineup. When Crawford gets on track, the lineup should be: 1. Crawford 2. Pedroia 3. AGon 4. Youkilis 5. Ortiz 6. Drew/Cameron 7. Lowrie 8. Salty 9. Ellsbury Ellsbury doesn't crack the top 5 on this team. Putting him at the top of the lineup in front of the big boppers would weaken the lineup.
  11. Varitek was far superior defensively, regardless of stats. He had better tools behind the plate. He was just a better all around athlete.
  12. Possible trade bait for King Felix.
  13. You can't compare Salty to the situation with Crawford or Dice K or 2009/2010 Ortiz. They are all proven ML performers. Salty is not. Other than the fact that he is large, I don't think he has any major tools. Also, he has terrible instincts. I don't think you can teach or learn that. We might survove the season with him at catcher, but why take the chance if there are better alternatives.
  14. BTW, not all Yankee fans are scumbags. You certainly are not, and as much as we like to abuse him Jackson isn't either. He's just a major ass at times, but who am I to cast a stone.
  15. I like your style.
  16. White Sox bullpen has 6 blown saves already this season. Wow!!!
  17. When he goes to the Mayo Clinic and gets a diagnosis like Gehrig did.
  18. Jeter has no range and he broke back initially. That was embarrassing to say the least.
  19. Posada sucks as DH.
  20. He also seems to be brainless on top of everything else.
  21. Many good and great pitchers have had their personal catchers. Carlton had McCarver. Maddux had anyone other than Javy Lopez. More than one Yankee pitcher throughout the years did not want to throw to Posada. There must be something to it. All I know is that each of Varitek's three extended DL stints during his career coincided with collapses by our starting pitching. You can attribute lots of other factors to those collapses, but each of them started the day Tek hit the DL. One time when Pedro was on the DL, he stated that the staff fell apart when Tek went down. If that's what Pedro thought, it is good enough for me. Salty is a disaster on every front. He can't be salvaged or mentored to become useful. They need to move on from him quickly.
