I am with you on this, but who figured that Jackson would get more on a 1 year contract than Oswalt. I never would have guessed that.

This off season has been like the baseball version of the movie Groundhog Day. I need this off season to end, and I am not looking forward to another one yet.

Pal is certainly one of the most tolerant posters with regard to the FO. He almost always errs on the side of giving them the benefit of the doubt. When he starts questioning what is going on, you have to believe that the FO has made some boo boos. Thank goodness this team has a bunch of talent and that it really just needs one good starting pitcher. If he gets one, everyone should be optimistic about 2012. If he can't manage to land a starting pitcher, lots of people will be displeased with Benny.

A $5 million offer to Oswalt is absurd. Of course, what do I know. I don't run a baseball club. We did pay a combined $10 million to Smoltz and Penny one year. Neither pitched a full season for the Sox. The only reason that he hasn't signed with the Rangers already is probably because after hearing our ridiculous low-ball offer they are re-doing their proposal to shave off a couple of million before they make their offer. I am looking forward to the movie about the Red Sox 2011 -12 off-season entitled No Money Ball.

Because it is not a major league contract, we get no compensation pick. The compensation pick thing has not really worked out to well for Benny Boy this off season.

Theriot is streaky. He hasn't demonstrated enough consistency to remain as a starter. If he played every day, his numbers would compare even less favorably to Scutaro.

$5 million is a total joke. We paid that to Smoltz coming off shoulder surgery and we knew he wouldn't be available for at least half of the season.

That would have been a good way to go, but they got greedy hoping Ortiz would turn down arbitration and they would also get 2 draft choices. He crossed them up and accepted the arb and threw a wrench into their 2012 plan.

A RH platoon OFer is easier to find than an SS with a good stick.
