  1. Putting Bard in the rotation doesn't worry me. Putting Bard and Aceves in the rotation does worry me, because we don't have any depth if one or both of those moves go wrong.
  2. Oswalt is real good when healthy and he'd eat up 200 quality innings. More importantly, it would allow Aceves go back to the pen and play a very valuable role. He can also be a good depth option in case Bard blows up. They could switch Bard and Aceves if Bard can't cut it as starter. With regard to the bolded language above, I can't really understand the relevance of that comment in the context of this or any other discussion about the team, so I don't know if you are looking for me to respond to it or not.
  3. The timing of the Scutaro salary dump just makes no sense at all.
  4. Are you saying that they will get another starter although it may not be Oswalt or Jackson or are you saying that it doesn't matter whether they get another starting pitcher?
  5. If Oswalt goes to the Cards, Benny Boy has a real uphill battle getting a good starter. Jackson apparently wants a multi-year deal. Floyd is just so-so.
  6. ^ This possibility is what really concerns me. If that's what they are up to, then I wouldn't be surprised if the stories about Oswalt preferring the Rangers were planted by the Sox. The stories cited a FO official familiar with the situation. The stories implied that the FO official was neither with the Sox or the Rangers. Why would an official outside of the Rangers or Red Sox be familiar with the situation? If Oswalt signs elsewhere, the Sox say they pursued him and made a competitive offer, but he preferred to play elsewhere. It wouldn't surprise me at all.
  7. At this point, I don't know what conclusion can be drawn.
  8. When my criticism starts to become an optimisic spin on the facts, I get truly worried.
  9. $5 million is not a reasonable offer for Oswalt. Looking at the steaming pile of depth arms that have been accumulated, I am quite confident that no #5 is being squeezed out of that group. Padilla might give us 4 good starts before he needs to be re-admitted to the asylum, but that is it.
  10. John Maine in his best days was not very good. The last that I saw of him he was throwing around 84 MPH and insisting that he felt healthy for the Mets. The guy fits in with the rest of the "cesspool of negative (as coined by VA) that is our pitching depth.
  11. It doesn't matter who is at fault. They are all part of the FO. If you want to blame the FO generically, it makes no difference to me. The address for accountability is Yawkey Way. However, until Ben or Larry or JH says otherwise, I think it is fair to attribute normal GM functions to Benny Boy. Several times we have read that they are not going to limit themselves to the LT cap, so I guess if they are not giving Ben $ they are all a bunch of liars. Frankly, I'd prefer that Ben was just going through some growing pains in his new job or even that he wasn't very good at it rather than think he and the rest of the FO are liars.
  12. Could this be a precursor to moving Wandy or Bret Myers?
  13. ... and he is sloppy on the details. How did it elude him that Sergio Santos was on the block during the GM Meetings and he got traded into our division? Maybe he wouldn't have obtained him, but he should have known about it. We don't get compensation for Wheeler, because he signed a minor league deal with the Guardians. We are giving minor league deals to recycled garbage, but we couldn't offer such a deal to Wheeler. We have been told to be patient, because Benny Boy works at a slow and deliberate pace. In my many years of business, I have observed all sorts of working styles. Usually the slow and deliberate people are very thorough, but I am not getting that impression of Benny. I could be wrong, but these troubling instances are starting to pile up.
  14. The deal for Oswalt or Jackson should have been all but signed sealed and delivered before he dumped his SS. They have done a lot of things ass-backward this offseason. To start with, they didn't lock down the compensation for Theo before they gave him permission to negotiate. Now, with no leverage we will get next to nothing. Second, the offer arbitration to Ortiz. That one speaks for itself, and i am a huge Ortiz fan. Third, they dump our starting SS who hit close to .300 last year to shed salary to make room for a starting pitcher, but it has become apparent that no deal was close to being in place for a pitcher at the time they dumped Scutaro.
  15. No one wanted Theriot, except maybe Doji. My apologies to Doji if I am misrepresenting his view.
  16. Red Sox Off Season thus far: Lost: Papelbon Scutaro Lowrie Reddick Lackey (injury) Added Bailey Sweeney Shoppach Punto Ross Also Added: Various bags of trash called pitching depth. You be the judge.
  17. He is no longer a consideration.
  18. But they are very philanthropic and they have a strong sense of noblese oblige. They are still **********s, but I felt compelled to note those other things. LOL!
  19. Unfortunately, I don't remember the Dodgers, but I heard many stories about them and what they meant to the community from family members. Everyone who I have met who remembered the Brooklyn Dodgers agree that Brooklyn was never the same. The heart was torn from the community when they left town.
