    We love Fenway for the memories it hold, but it is not a good place to watch a game. The new stadiums are not cookie cutter like the one's built in the 1970's . Each of them have their distinct features. If the city of Boston wasn't a corrupt political sewer, they could build the new Fenway in Boston.

    Good point. I am not a local, but I have been to probably a couple of hundred games throughout the decades. In the beginning, I loved the place and thought it was a great landmark. Over the last couple of decades, the awe has worn off, and the reality has set it that it is an old relic that is not a good place to watch a game. I love Fenway, but when non-Sox fans from other cities with new ballparks see Fenway, they see it with non-biased eyes, and they usually think it is a dump.

    Unfortunately, only the seats almost directly behind a post are designated as "obstructed view". There are thousands of seat that have views that are obstructed in one way or another. It's easy to say that I should just buy seats that are not obstructed. Easier said than done. The best seats with no obstructions are largely season tickets. Those that are not are $95 plus seats. Fenway has a lot of great memories for me, but it is not a good place to watch a ballgame compared to all the great new ballparks that have been built in the last 15 or so years. Shrines are fine, but they are not a great place to watch ballgames.

    I've been going to Fenway for decades, and despite all the improvements made by the current ownership, it is a dump. They have managed to turn it into a shrine, but it really does suck when you spend $55/ticket and you cant see the pitchers mound or home plate because of a pole. But for the fact that the city is tremendously corrupt, making it logistically impossible to get a new place built, Fenway would already have been reduced to a memorial plaque.

    I didn't blame him for not coming back in 2010. He owed us nothing. He got trashed and abused whenever he came back to Boston. I disagree with you. The Yankees made a take it or leave it offer. The Sox made a lowball offer and then screened their calls and refused to communicate with him. We disagree.

    Well he was brutalized by the fans when he left, and it really was unfair. He played extremely hard for the Sox and he was a huge part of the 2004 team. The FO made no attempt to keep him. That is not his fault.

    Padilla looked bad today. Except for Aceves, the candidates for the #5 spot have not looked good at all.

    Should the Sox take a flyer on him? He's still better than Sweeney is. He can still run and provide an offensive spark.

    Maybe he's starting to get the itch already. Wait until he is home for another few weeks.

    Doubront will make the staff one way or another, because he is out of options. Even if he doesn't make the rotation out of camp, he will get the ball for starts if/when Padilla flames out. Aceves is still my pick to lock down the 5th spot. I will be leaving for Fort Myers a week from tomorrow. I will report back while I am there.

    Doubront did not do well at all. So far Aceves has looked the best for the last slot, but it is very early. Silva is out of the picture with a bad shoulder. Cook and Ohlendorf have bad shoulders, but say they feel fine. I have to think that the competition is among Aceves, Padilla and Doubront. A couple of more outings like yesterday and Doubront will eliminate himself from consideration.

    He didn't pitch too many games for the Sox. It could be the same game.

    Papelbon is still my favorite bullpen guy of all-time. I don't care what he says. The Sox didn't want him. That's not his fault.

    My bet is that Oswalt will sign with the Cardinals as soon as Wainright experiences a setback.

    Quite often in baseball there are game changers-- guys who come out of nowhere or from modest success to be game-changing stars. In 1967, it was Lonborg. He went from a guy with potential to a fierce ace pitcher. In 1972, Luis Tiant came from being buried deep in the Red Sox bullpen to be the team ace and lead the league with a sub-2 ERA. In 1975, two rookies, Lynn and Rice hit the scene as rookies who were top MVP candidates. In 1986, Clemens became the ace that he remained for 15+ years. Bard could be that game-changer in 2012. If he does, that will propel this team. Hey, I can dream... right.?
