  1. VMart could be tolerated behind the dish, because he was a beast with the lumber in his hands. Salty is no offensive beast.
  2. He'll keep himself involved with the organization. I don't see him traveling around this season to minor league facilities to work with catchers. It's not worth his time.
  3. He can't catch --Wakefield or anyone else. He blocks pitches in the dirt poorly. His throwing release and footwork are slow. His throwing accuracy is erratic. His game calling ability will become more obvious as this will become his staff in 2012, not Tek's. I am undecided about this aspect of his game. His offensive production is okay, except he k's too much. Overall, he is an adequate placeholder for 2012.
  4. I think Aceves really wants the job and he will outpitch the field. I hate to lose him from the bullpen. Felix will take his spot in the pen as a swingman. They will start off the season with Padilla, Silva and Cook et al in the minors as insurance.
  5. I apologize for the extra thread.
  6. In answering this poll, please select the pitcher who you think will win th job, not who you want to win the job.
  7. I guess it must be a slow sports news day everywhere. Bobby V's snide remarks about Jeter's flip throw and ARod getting his ass kicked by Varitek have made the news this morning in NY.
  8. Martin threw out a higher percentage of base stealers last season. Over their careers, Martin has been the better offensive player.
  9. The starting rotation is on thin ice, not Beckett.
  10. I didn't think this type of performance clause was permissible. It almost pays for Lester to campaign for vote (maybe even bribe), and maybe out of town writers will vote for him just to spring him from the Sox.
  11. Did the FO make any sort of statement leading you to believe that Bobby V is a short term solution? He was in Texas and NY for 7 seasons each. If he has success in Boston, why would his tenure be any shorter?
  12. He's the team's best catcher since Fisk, and he stayed with the Sox for his entire career. No one blocked the plate better than Tek in any era. His left leg must be made of concrete. Guys would hit that left leg sliding in and not only wouldn't the get to the plate but they would spin away from the plate after contact.
  13. These people who act like theirs is the only childbirth in history irk me. Sure, it's a blessing, but put it in perspective. It's not a world stopping event. It happens millions of times a day. Take a day or 2 to help your wifw and to ooh and ahhh, and then get back to f***ing work. The important thing to the child is that you provide a loving home, stay with the mother, and be a responsible father. There's too much hoopla around births and too much neglect in childhood. It's just a pet peeve of mine as you can tell.
  14. I think they are very comparable. The knock on Martin that will hold down his value is his injury history. He's not as good as Yadier defensively, but Yadier is in a class by himself right now. Martin is the next level down.
