  1. It's very early, but Doubront has done poorly and so has Padilla. Padilla's stuff doesn't look good at all. Silva is out of the running. Cook looked good, but Bobby V said that he will not log enough innings in camp, so he will probably not come north. Ohlendorf is pitching today. He is behind the other pitcher, so he probably can't get enough innings to be ready by April. Aceves has looked good, but taking him from the bullpen would be a big blow to the pen. It doesn't look like they will have much of a choice after Aceves. No one is climbing out of the garbage heap of so-called pitching depth to claim the job yet. It's still early.
  2. The news sources are still providing conflicting information
  3. and since 50 is the new 30, you are too old for me?
  4. She is definitely not old. You must be mistaking her for someone else.
  5. Has he had a single non-trolling post in one of the Sports threads in the past year or two? Seriously, he brings nothing to the table... nothing. Keep Shaughnessy, dump J_E.
  6. The old Boston Garden had a smaller rink than other venues. I guess they tore it down because it was unfair and not because it was an eyesore of a dump.
  7. Plus, he must be measuring the height of the rim before he'll play. It must be 10'0" exactly or it isn't fair.
  8. The Lars part of this is interesting. Are they trying to make him more versatile to give him some trade value, or are they toying with the notion of bringing him north as an OFer until Crawford joins the team?
  9. and not to be snide, but that stat confirms my first hand observation. BTW, speaking of defense. I have been impressed with this kid Ciriaco at SS. He's made some plays and he seems to have an idea with the bat.
  10. I don't know how much the scalpers are making these days. I have tickets that I can't use on Stubhub for a price that would only return my cost, and they are not exactly selling like hotcakes. It was the same story last year. I didn't get stuck with any tickets, but I just recouped my cost.
  11. I know that you didn't direct this question at me, but I have seen him play. He's a good defender, but he is not Paul Blair or Steve Finley. I'm not even sure that he is as good as Ellsbury, who brings a bat to the game. Lin is never going to start in anyone's outfield, so I reiterate that don't know how this could be a discussion when the premise is far fetched at best.
  12. The owners would only do the deal for the additional revenue. The comfort of the fan would be a byproduct. They would profit handsomely from numerous additional luxury boxes. Also, I think that every dollar spent on the new stadium would be a dollar that is not subject to revenue sharing. That was definitely a motivating factor for building the new Yankee Stadium.
  13. You are right. He's just trying to get people to read his column. In the 60's and 70's, most of the print guys were like him. They would drop hints of clubhouse feuds etc. that had no basis in fact. It was real tabloid garbage. Today, they can't get away with that stuff, because one of the other media outlets would expose false stories like that. As for AGon, IMO he turned off a lot of people with the comments about the collapse being God's plan. Blaming god is the ultimate cop out.
  14. When prior ownership was pitching plans for a new Fenway with identical dimensions, they had planned on making the Green Monster and the field as a sort of museum, but they would have demolished the rest of the structure.
  15. ^ This could never happen. The Red Sox have a veto over a franchise being moved within a certain radius of Fenway. They are not going to share their market.
  16. I am not saying that their opinion should mean more. I am just pointing out that stripped of emotion it is more objective. Sound business decisions are made on objective criteria, not emotion. This brings us back to square one. If the owners thought that they could get a new ballpark in Boston in a reasonable time frame, we'd already have one. I and others here have agreed that Boston politics and special interests have been the stumbling blocks. Instead, the owners made a decision to go forward with major renovations at Fenway.
  17. God, you are cranky tonight. I have work tomorrow too. I'm not getting snippy with you.
