  1. Unless someone starts the season on the DL, I can't see that there is any room for him on the staff that comes north.
  2. I did want to see Middlebrooks, but that's what happens when you can't get there until after the 15th.
  3. Should we have home and away jerseys with is various identities.
  4. I've been saying that about Oswalt. He'll be signing with someone sooner than later, IMO. The family life can't compare to the Major League life, and they can have the best of all worlds.
  5. If we had acquired a starter, Bard and Aceves would be competing for one spot. The odds would be better that 1 of them will adapt well to the new role rather than both of them being successful. Also, the pen would be greatly strengthened by one of them being in the pen.
  6. I just registered my team.
  7. That's horrendous. I wonder how much the rain delay bothered him.
  8. I think Bowden makes the team initially, because he has no options left. The same goes for Miller and Doubront. I think it will be between Miller and Bowden with regard to who gets cut first.
  9. If this happens, either Punto or Aviles might be let go. There's no room on the roster for both of them after Crawford comes back, unless DMac gets cut.
  10. ^ Good catch. I'll edit my list. There is even less flexibility than I thought.
  11. For all the talk about competition this spring, I think the opening day roster is all but set. I think this has to be the roster they take north: 1. Salty 2. Shoppach 3. AGon 4. Pedroia 5. Aviles 6. Youkilis 7. Ortiz 8. Punto 9. Ellsbury 10. Ross 11. Sweeney 12. McDonald 13. Crawford (if not DL'd) 14. Albers 15. Lester 16. Beckett 17. Buchholz 18. Bard 19. Aceves 20. Bailey 21. Melancon 22. Morales 23. Doubront (out of options) 24. Bowden (out of options) 25. Miller (out of options) The only variable is Crawford who might not be ready. In that case, it could be Iglesias or even Lars if he can play the OF a little bit. Other than that, I don't see anyone else having a chance to crack the roster.
  12. He'd have to put together a very solid year in AAA before he would have any value as a throw in for a trade.
  13. There is no room for him or Iggy on the roster. However, if Ciriaco continues to hit in the Spring and in the minors and Iggy doesn't, Ciriaco could ne called up before Iggy if someone goes down with an injury.
  14. Touche! I am a big Giants fan so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Hopefully, by opening day I'll have a new sig.
  15. I didn't mean that literally.
  16. People think the sabremetric stuff is relatively new with all the MoneyBall hooey. The platoon thing was a religion for Casey Stengel in the 1950's. His players hated him for it. He knew the benefit, and he probably never looked at a stat to see if he was right about it. I have to laugh at the OBP stuff. Yeah, Billy Beane invented that. I can remember my dad telling me about that as a kid. "Look at how much he walks not just the average." Since the game was invented, coaches have told their kids, " a walk is as good as a hit." There's nothing new under the son. Lot's of stuff that people think is new and revolutionary is something a bunch of other people already forgot about.
  17. Whereas Iglesias is still the typical all glove no hit SS.
  18. Plus, it is likely that they will come north with 12 pitchers, because Doubront, Miller and Bowden are all out of options. Assume they are all in the pen, we will also have Bailey, Melancon, Albers, and Morales in the pen. Padilla, Cook and Ohlendorf will have to start the season in the minors.
  19. The kid has a slick glove.
