  1. I didn't pick anything arbitrary. I looked at his last 8 starts. I didn't pick starts in the middle of the season or cherry pick 8 starts. I just looked at his most recent performance, and I was surprised that his ERA in those starts is almost exactly at his season ERA. I think he is a solid pitcher, but I am not sure that I would want go so far as calling him "sheerand uterly dominant". I think that is an overstatement.
  2. That's where I seem him starting the season unless he is part of some trade package.
  3. I wasn't directing my comment at you. I apologize if it came off that way. It's just something that has annoyed me for years when our brethren complain about the Yankees' money. We have plenty of money to succeed if they stop doing a suck-ass job.
  4. I don't think people have been seriously lamenting Brandon Moss getting traded in 2008.
  5. He hasn't been able to work on his game in two seasons. Basically, his development has been arrested. Physically, he still seems to be damaged. He's had shoulder and neck surgery. These are not minor procedures. Do the Sox keep him at AAA another season? If the Sox re-sign Ross, where would Kalish play? Would they hand him the open OF position? Being a 4th OFer would not help his development. I don't see them handing him a starting position.
  6. Buchholz is not looking that great lately. He's solid, but he's not looking like a #1. He may not be an ideal #2 either. In his last 8 starts he has pitched to his season ERA of 4.16. Maybe that is what he is -- a low 4 ERA starter. That's solid, but not a #1 or 2.
  7. I hate when my fellow Sox fans whine about Yankee money like the Sox are a small market team. They have plenty of resources. The problem is they have squandered hundreds of millions of dollars on suck ass players.
  8. Kalish has had 2 lost seasons. It's probably time to pull the plug on him.
  9. Gammons is in the Hall of Fame. He's not getting fired.
  10. Congrats to Big Papi CC! How many times have you won the TalkSox league?
  11. I think he's shot. He doesn't have upper 90's stuff anymore, and he has no clue where he is throwing the ball.
  12. ^ and that will be the staff of a 4th place team.
  13. Yes, they are faced with more work than they have had in the past. We will find out if they are up to it. The jury is out.
  14. No I have not argued the former at all. And yes I disagree that we have a solid core of players to work with. The core that we have in house (except for WMB ) has produced a truly horrible record since the end of August 2011. The current core is also aging at key spots (Ortiz) and under performing to the point of great concern at other spots (Ellsbury and Lester).
  15. If I knew what point you were trying to make, I'd respond.
  16. If the strength of your team is your middle relief, your team sucks. This is a truism of baseball IMO.
  17. Seriously, 11th in Reliever ERA and last in Late and Close situations is not solid at all.
  18. I could live with him as a 4th OFer, but he has no pop at all. Outfielders have to have some pop.
  19. 11th in the league in starter's ERA, 11th in Reliever's ERA and the worst Late and Close bullpen --yeah great job. A healthy Bailey would have made all the difference in the world. He should get some votes for executive of the year.
  20. I agree with everything except a couple of items. Sweeney and Nava have no place on the 25 man roster of a winning team. They both stink.
  21. I completely agree with this. Selling off parts is not an indication of competence in evaluating talent or building a team. Thus far, Cherington has demonstrated very little aptitude in evaluating talent.
  22. I agree. I think Papelbon could have kept this ship of fools afloat only for a short period of time. However, in fixing the pitching they need to be fixing the rotation at the same time they are fixing the pen. I don't think they should fix the rotation with a wait and see attitude about the pen. Why bring in quality starters if you are not going to give them support at the end of games?
  23. I agree with you. This is an organization in disarray. There are a lot of holes. IMO opinion, they should fix the pitching first, because that will return the team to competitiveness more quickly. It is not a short term fix, because pitching should always be the foundation. They can attack the other holes incrementally as the opportunities present themselves. There should not be a wait and see attitude on the pitching. They need to aggressively rebuild the pitching. I have little confidence in the ability of this organization with regard to the evaluation of pitching.
  24. Is there a Pedro-like ace in this group? No, there isn't any sort of ace in that group. Lester is at best a #3. Does anyone in this group compare to Manny in his prime? We are a last place quality team right now. If these guys are the core, then we are in trouble. Maybe WMB turns out to be a total stud, but the rest just isn't very good for an elite team.
