    The article is ridiculous. Of course Jeter is a first ballot Hall of Famer and an all time great. He may not be the greatest talent to ever play SS, but he performed at an excellent level much longer than anyone else. Every other argument against him is jealous whining, and this comes from a guy that has been looking forward to being rid of him. First Ballot Hall of Famer? Without any doubt. And as a Red Sox fan, I hope it happens sooner than later. Hopefully, he is done and will go into the hall in 2018.

    Cherries needs to put this manager search behind him much earlier than last year's search. Bobby V wasn't hire until November 29th. Too much time was spent diddling over that decision and the FO let the rest of the off season pass them by. They have had plenty of time to map out their plan and plan B C and D. The season has been over since the end of July. They should be prepared and read to go once the World Series. They should be able to get the jump on everyone else. last year's waiting game was a disaster. They were waiting for the market to shake out to the point where certain good value acquisitions presented themselves. They let all the pitching pass them by -- both in FA's and trades. Good pitching costs money or prospects. If you wait for the market to shake out, you will be left with Aaron Cook, Ohlendorf, Padilla and assorted other garbage.

    You will need to watch old DVD's of Jeter playing SS, because it is ova for him. Pettitte will pitch one more game --and I predict that it will be s spectacular loss- then he will go into permanent retirement. That will be the last we will see of the Core Four. Good bye and good riddance.

    Unlike joe Torre who worshipped Jeter and could never bench him or move him off SS, Girardi has shown that he has no sentimentality. A broken ankle at 39 years old is the end of Jeter as an everyday SS. Look at how long it has taken for Stephen Drew to return from his broken ankle-- an entire year. He's 10 years younger than Jeter. I have seen careers ruined by broken ankles. This is a devastating injury to guys who rely on speed and mobility. I have seen that type of player have there careers ended by an ankle or have the trajectory of their career paths radically changed liked Tommy Davis and Bill Buckner.

    It will be very hard for a 39 yr olds coming off a shattered ankle to play SS at the major league level. It took Stephen Drew an entire year to make it back and he is 10 years younger than Jeter. I am betting that Jeter is done as the Yankee SS.

    Wow, a fractured ankle. I don't think I have seen a guy break an ankle fielding a ground ball.

    Leyland is an *******. He and Valverde gave this game away. You can't give away a game in a short series.

    WTF kind of late inning bullpen gives up a 4 spot to a struggling team in the 9th inning of a playoff game.

    Leyland knew that he didn't look right. He should have given him the hook after the Ichiro HR.

    Ichiro was such a good pickup for the yanks. He is the only one hitting on their team.

    I guess Valverde doesn't look right to Leyland, because with a 4 run lead they have Dotel backing him up in the pen.

    I think Tulo is a possibility if the Rockies are looking to dump a salary. If the Rockies are looking to go in a different direction and need payroll flexibility, we could probably get him without gutting the farm.

    He's a tremendous talent. Bradley might be a really good ballplayer, I'll need to see him playing with the big boys before I am ready to say that he has that level of talent. The only thing Ells doesn't have is a strong arm. His other tools are plus and his speed is a lethal weapon.

    As you know, I live among the Yankees fans in NY. One of my best friends, a big Yankee fan, told me that when the umps huddled and reversed those calls, that is when he knew the Sox would finally win. He said that up to that point in his memory, the Yankees had always benefited from blown calls.

    We have nothing to matchup with their needs which are in the pitching department.

    It's the MFY's. With the exception of the two reversed calls in game 6 of the 2004 ALCS, they always get the calls.

    The problem with the 2012 team was definitely not that they were old. The 2012 Yankees are old, but that has not been a problem for them. The problem with the 2012 Red Sox was that they stunk-- plain ans simple. The solution is going younger. The solution is getting good players both veterans and young players. It's probably easier to make some good choices trading and signing good veterans than fixing a lousy farm system. They will need to do both but the latter will take time.

    I am not convinced that Aviles is a good hitter. He's not even as good as Scutaro.

    Not to pick nits but Ortiz was only 28 in 2004. Almost the entire pitching staff was 31 and over and there was a lot of money invested in them.

    It's just not an effective argument to bring up Jeter as being in anyway analogous to the Red Sox SS situation with Aviles. I realize that you didn't compare them offensively, but Aviles doesn't compare, not even remotely, to Jeter in any aspect of the game so bringing up Jeter's name in stating your position does not strengthen your argument.

    Cherington in an interview in today's Globe discussed how the FO had strayed from its discipline. He didn't mean that they were relying on high price veterans and free agents at the expense of more young home grown players. He clearly stated that there has been a big problem of not bringing in the right big priced veterans. The article states that: and The 2004 team had a number of players 31 and over including: Varitek, Millar, Mueller, Manny, 4 the team's 5 starting pitchers and almost the entire bullpen. More than half of the 25 man roster in 2007 was 31 and over.
